John Carpenter and Dan O`Bannons - DARK STAR - A spaced out prop journey

Watch it again? That means I have to fire up the Beta. Darn!

LOL

A solution to the hose problem is to go online and order a replacement for your vac. No harm, no foul.

Sure thing but its right in front of me and just want to get at it.
Control, control, i must learn control.

Good news, Mr Webber!

From left to right:

40th Armored Brigade, currently available on the Bay. (Oddly, the movie patches have an extra yellow line at the lower right.)

California National Guard, subdued, available at Vanguard

I'm still looking for the sunburst patch. Maybe some hippie-era thing? A mandala?

I couldn't have done it without this amazing site: Mike's US Army Patches

What's really humorous is that we've (mostly unwittingly) rehashed this thread from last year: http://www.therpf.com/f24/dark-star-costume-65436/

Now, if I could only manage this level of obsession for my writing... ;)

The 40th Armored is available at H.J. Saunders online. They are a major military store for all branches. I'm sure they might have the California patch as well, but I didn't look yet.

That is great work, Mr W! I saw one of those helmets in a vintage toy store and almost snagged it, missed my chance.

Hey, about that sunburst patch- it reminds me of the Hand-Dove-Sun insignia on the front of the coveralls all the penal colony workers wore on that old Star Trek ep: Dagger of the Mind. So maybe it is/was some hippy/flower power patch?

Oh, SNAP! Good call, BF. I thought it might be some hippy thing, too, but haven't had any luck on that front. However, a little GIS on your info gets us this:

Star Trek Prop, Costume & Auction Authority: Some TOS Patch, Braid & Insignia Photos

And wouldn't that be clever of the boys to use a Star Trek reference like that? :)

Thanks for the comments Bondo, great work with the star burst patch fellas,
the reverse pic MFP 2020 posted will make it much easier to replicate. Will post pics of all the patches and list their id`s in one spot soon.

If i turn it on its side the cat might get some value too......

Put the order in today for the Starburst patch and Doolittles name patch.

That completes Doolittes entire patch set and with the addition of Talbys breast patch, completes the entire crews patch set.
This also completes my spaced out prop journey, many thanks to all who contributed, especially MFP 2020.

Took a long time but squezzed in a Cap One patch in between so didnt work out to bad. The starburst patch came out great and want to thank everyone who helped track it down, got an extra for you Curtis, drop me a line.

I wasnt going to finish the costume because of space issues, was just going to have the patch set in a frame, but what better frame than the whole thing and it hangs on a wall. Heres something you wont see every day.

This is quickly becomeing my favorite out of the few costumes ive done. The others cant really be worn anywhere, have only worn them to take pics, with this one, can just about wear it anywhere and in this nice spring weather, is really kinda comfy. Will take some pics in it when the GF gets home.
