Jim Henson's Labyrinth - My Collection (Sept 2024 Update: Poisoned Peach Prop Replica)

The edge of the book is mirrored in the cover of the wizard book. So, then is likely the spine. That would mean that the surface of the Wizard of Oz book is very, very shiny and glossy to the point of being actually reflective. That might help you track it down.

The mystery has been solved! Huge shout-out to OzReturner for helping me track down the specific Wizard of Oz book that appears in Sarah's bedroom. It turns out what I thought was a red flag was actually the woodsman's axe, and as division 6 pointed out in their post the book is actually very green (and not black like I was originally thinking!). Shout-out to Jintosh as well, who pointed out the book cover in the film was very glossy (Which it certainly is in person too).

OzReturner also helped me track down another of Sarah's books (The Hans Anderson one), that one's still en-route to me in the mail so I'll reveal it when it gets here. As of right now I've got four of the books Sarah has in her room: The Wizard of Oz one, the Hans Anderson one, the Snow White Annual, and Outside Over There.

Of course these successes give me the urge to try and track down more of the books, though I'm not sure how likely it'll be to find some of those other books (Like the most leftmost one in the shot I posted previously, it certainly has a distinct cover but the title is completely obscured, so unless someone happens to recognize it from sight alone I don't think that one's likely to be identified.

As a fun bonus here's something I noticed from the last time I scoured through some screenshots... turns out Sarah's a Judge Dredd fan.

And now that you've brought it to my attention, in that image you can kinda make out a few letters on the title of that first book, "M_____ __ N_____________?"... might have to try see if I can track down some higher res versions to see if more of the title is visible.

Okay, the red book has what looks like a yellow moon and a MOUSE on the right side of the moon. (with tail) Bottom word does look like it starts with W.

I think you're both correct, on closer inspection it does look like a "W" for the second word, and after digging through more screenshots from this scene for a clearer shot I'm pretty confident that this is a copy of "Alice in Wonderland"

Not sure why there appears to be a bear and two kids on the front cover though, did I completely forget something like that happening in the original book?

Ha dang, bit pricey for my blood, but now that I know which one it is I can at least set up a search on eBay and hope a cheaper version comes along. Thanks for digging that up, if nothing else it's really satisfying to be able to conclusively say which books Sarah has in her collection!

Good job ! It was a mouse, but then I would never have gotten Alice from a mouse....being mainly familiar with the Disney cartoon/movie and the live action remake.

I realised I forgot to post a few new glamour shots that I took of my music box replica. Since the last time I posted about it I did some minor updates to the lattice panels on the roof piece using my 3D printer so they're a lot thinner now. Eventually I'd like to try printing the entire music box on my printer just for the heck of it, my original one was printed through Shapeways using the cheapest materials so even with the refinishing it's still not a flawless finish. I have a lot of sentimental attachment to this music box though, so if I do make another it'll just be an experimental thing that I'd probably end up gifting to a friend.

I blame OzReturner for getting me fixated on the idea of ID'ing all of the book on Sarah's desk. Currently I'm trying to track down the Brother's Grimm book, which is so far unfruitful mostly thanks to just how many different editions there probably are of the Brother's Grim stories out there, but given that we have a pretty clear image of the spine I feel like it'll be identified one day.

I'm currently trying to figure out what the last two books on her shelf might be. I'm fairly certain that the last book is gonna be "Through the Looking Glass", complete with a slip case. It looks like there's also a second title on the spine of the book, though I can't make out what it is exactly, other than the first letter is probably "A".

The second to last book is also a mystery to me, and I hadn't realised until brightening up the image that there is indeed a bit of writing on the spine. Again I'm not quite sure what it says, I think part of the first like is "US?". Maybe "ILLUST? to designate an illustrated edition? But of what I'm not sure, I'm trying to think of what classic books a character like Sarah would have on her shelf but I'm drawing a blank. Would love to hear some thoughts from folks if you guys have any ideas!

It's on it's way! Lately I've been having bad luck with eBay purchases taking absolute ages to ship for some reason, not to mention the usual sluggish nature of CanadaPost. I also ended up buying myself an old quilt that kinda resembles the one on Sarah's bed. Definitely not identical by any means but should be close enough to do a few fun photoshoots with!

Book collection update! I'm still trying to figure out those two red books on Sarah's desk, plus the exact identity of the Grimm's book, but thanks to OzReturner's help I was able to get a copy of the Hans Christian Andersen book in Sarah's collection! Interestingly this one has him credited as "Hans Anderson", no idea why as I've always heard him referred to with his middle name included.

I also ended up picking up an older copy of Where the Wild Things Are, which you see lying on Sarah's desk just before the camera pans over to her main batch of books. My copy is not quite the right year, it's the 1988 25th anniversary edition, but it was one of the cheaper vintage editions that didn't have the big shiny (And not movie accurate) Caldescott medal on the front cover so that's good enough for me.

Yeah that was my assessment as well, I have taken a look on eBay already but so far haven't found an exact match unfortunately. That book might end up being a big pain to find precisely because of the slipcase, I can envision a scenario where I finally find the book but no one bothered to hang onto the original slipcase.

The Grimm's book may also be a pain in the butt to track down because there's so many different editions of those stories and all I have to go on is the spine which some listings omit pictures of. I may end up getting one that's close enough to tide me over for now, but I'd love to track the actual copy down one day.

As for that little red book with the obscured title, I'm still trying to figure out if I can identify some of the writing on the side. I'd be curious to know if it's any more clearer on the latest 4K release of Labyrinth, it's pretty hard to make out on the screencaps I've been referencing from an older DVD release.

The Grimm’s Fairy Tales book looks like it may be a Soft back book. If you look at the thickness off the cover, along with the lack of indent to the spike area, it doesn’t look like a hardback. Maybe this could help narrow your search a bit more.
