I don't know, am I crazy here? It really feels like these sides slope in more than simple perspective can account for. Plus it looks so thick at the bottom and thin on the sides, an inward slope could account for that.

I see what you are doing but maybe it’s just an opinion based on perception but something isn’t translating when it comes to the grill. Your first post with the illustration looks great but the actual print looks off. It might be something as simply as the original props grill is two-toned like the top is a reflective chrome like finish and the part of the frill extending down is either black or something dark and/or matte finish. Of course I also realized my criticism is based off only one view of the actual prop. I know that angles, lighting, resolution can play a lot of tricks on the eyes so maybe I would have a different opinion if I saw a different angle.

I think the top of the grill is a half-round. the.rebel.agent 's 3D model has it squared off, which will give it the appearance of taller walls.

(I hope this doesn't come across as piling on - the model looks great, and this is a cool enough prop that I think we all just want to see it be as accurate as possible .

But I too want to state that I think it’s an excellent replica,

I think this is spot on... I dummied up a quick and dirty version of the grille with the roundover and I think that small tweak will take this over the edge from excellent to stellar. That slight difference in angles is what's catching the light and making the edges pop on the original prop.

Also, the angles of each spar (from inner ring to second, then from second to outer) appear to be slightly different, which also helps sell the dimensionality a bit.

Don't know why I did not see this post. Printed vs modelled version is a matter of horizontal resolution. Even at 0.08mm a FDM won't do a great job. I can exaggerate the beveled border, but will do a terrible job in a Resin printer. I see what you mean. Maybe I can do two version of that grill, one FDM printers ready (mean over exaggerated roundness) and the regular beveled version for resin printers.

Thanks again for your feedback. I vouch for screen accuracy and that was something I missed. Small details are everything.

PS: That's a silk PLA. Have to dial the retraction settings to avoid stringing.
