Jayne's Pistol from Firefly/Serenity

Warning! WIP! ;) Just the base metallic brushwork before I start to weather it up! Do the fans really care if the gun and handles are exactly the same as in the show? I just see this looking cool in a few other metals and grip color combos..

Thanks for the advice!

I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think of your Boo. I wanna see it in other colors too!

I think you could argue that the manufacturers in the show might have offered several models.

I like that idea. I really wanted to do it in brass or bronze coloring, but thought I'd go the safer route with the first one. I figure if it doesn't sell, I don't have more money to buy additional casts :)

Thanks for the advice!

I always loved that design. Based on the Civil War Confederate LeMatt Revolver. I think that gun would have suited Jayne's taste very well. Mostly because the LeMatt had a 10ga. shot gun barrel in the center of the Cylinder.

Haha, that does sound awesome. I'll have to go search that gun now..thanks!

OK, now you need a tag line for Johnson Arms.
Something that would draw the attention of a man like Jayne.

I'm thinkin'; "Nothing can stop a man with a big Johnson!"

Awesome replica, very well done.

If you'd like to see the actual pistol Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) used in the series, here it is:

Jayne's weapon is a modified LeMat Revolver Navy model with the underbarrel shotgun removed, with a flash and multi-notched site added by the prop department along the barrel. The original featured awesome firepower with its nine .41 caliber bullets and one 20 gauge single barrel firing a slug or buckshot. (The LeMat with the hooked style trigger guard is the Cavalry model. Unlike the original Navy model, the Cavalry model was chambered for a standard .44 cal round ball, and 16 gauge on the shotgun barrel)

Jayne's very favorite gun was a "Callahan fullbore autolock" (fictitious weapon created by the prop department) based on a Kalashnikov Saiga 12 gauge, which he nick named Vera. This impressive weapon was acquired when, in Jaynes words "Three men came to kill me at once, and the best of them carried this."

Also, in case anyone is interested... this is Captain Mal's pistol, it's a prop department creation made to look like an antique revolver (although there's no rotating chamber)... it's not a specifically modified western or CSA pistol like Jayne's was.

Welcome acwild! Always room for another Browncoat.

FYI, that Jayne pistol isn't the "actual pistol Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) used in the series". That's birdie's replica, he's a member here (that particular piece is not too terribly screen-accurate. BUT I suspect he has a newer one that is spot on).

Not sure of the lineage of the Callahan photo.

And the Mal pistol in the photo is also not the screen-used piece. That one is the 'Model 47' (IIRC), & it was made by an RPF member also (I believe one WAS gifted to Nathan Fillion, but it was many years after the series ended).

You can find quite a few photos of the actual screen-used weapons over at The Firefly Archive, if you're interested.

Welcome, ACWild!

Yeah, that Jayne pistol is Birdies.
THIS is the one Adam used.

It's mine now. :)

The 'Vera' that was posted MIGHT be Vera. It's definitely one of the rifles used in the movie 'Showtime' but it hasn't been 'Vera-ized'. So it's Vera or one of her sisters.

Fun story about that Mal pistol;
The guys that made the two blank-firing Hero pistols for the show also made two sets of the brass shells that go around those pistols so they could make repairs when needed.
THAT pistol pictured was made out of one of those two 'spare' sets of brass. So, really, it's about as accurate as ANY replica is ever going to get.
Also; it's the ONLY thing in that picture that ISN'T screen-used!

It's not one of the 47s, but the same guy that made them assembled this one.

And I can't think of anyone better for the job. :)

AC, come on over to Firefly Props too, you'll like it there. :)
