Well, here we go again! Do you think I may be obsessing over this a little?!!

I keep going back to the reference material, and I'm still not entirely happy. I've re-considered the cast wires, and have decided to go back to the original process, of adding them as a seperate element. After all, this is how it was constructed on the original.

So I took a cast and filed off the moulded "wires"

Then re-added the wires, as I did on the older model. Then finished with gold leaf and added the stone etc.

So there we have it, I honestly think this is the FINAL time I'll work into this prop!

Re: Stripped down and re-built (AGAIN!). Robin Hood Prince of Thieves - Pewter Medall

So glad you went back to the wrapped wires - it looks a thousand times more authentic! Perhaps you could drill small holes in the back to insert each wire end into, (somewhat like you do with the string ends at the head of a bass guitar) or use some solder on the back to make it look more finished?

Re: Stripped down and re-built (AGAIN!). Robin Hood Prince of Thieves - Pewter Medall

Yep, it was worth a try, but this is defiantly the way to go. Always good to experiment though!

The solder idea is interesting, it would need a steady hand and some nerve to melt the solder cleanly, without damaging the pewter. Well worth a shot though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sweet - please show us how it comes out if you give it a try! Great work.

Necro posting my own thread, for a final update on this LONG ongoing project. New pattern, new mould, more accurate gemstone. Still big, heavy and cast by hand in solid pewter. Check my IG @petefieldingprops for some more details and videos.
