James Bond: Skyfall (Post-release) (Spoilers - Don't hover over the title)

1) ANy field agent taksed with backing up bond on such an important mission wouldnt have hesitated to take 'the shot', and then when she shot bond, she would have immediatley shot the bad guy rather than watching ion shock as he escapes.

Being in contact with M and not having a clear shot justifies the hesitation in an inexperienced agent. However you're right, a second shot should have been taken.

2) Q. Good actor but silly to have someone so young and with OTT hair. Its this kind of thing that snaps you out of the film.

Didn't bother me at all. ;)

3) M driving around with only tanner by her side??? Stopping and getting out of her car without bodyguars is dumb, but even dumber considering whats happening.

You'd be surprised how often this type of thing happens in real life. After the MI6 explosion though you're right, she should have had lots of folks guarding her.

4) Judi dench as M seems to only be able to hold her own with bond. As soon as an external power begins to question her she goes all timmid (remember her in Quantum having to defend bond to the minister??)

I don't recall her being timid at all. When told she's going to "retire" she walks out on him. At the inquiry she was doing what every person in that situation has to do which is act political.

5) Bad guy is a lttle OTT for my tastes. Kind of hard to believe he couldnt have just got to M a lot earlier (consider she drives arounnd without bodyguards, goes home alone, and has no security at her home.

Quite the contrary I think. We've had guys with no hands, guys that can't feel pain, guys with metal teeth... Silva was just batsh*t crazy because of what he had gone through. Loved his character and wanted to see more. Had a bit of a Joker feel to him.

6) Bond girls seem totally irrelevant...although Berenice Marlohe is beautiful. Very under used though.

Something I noticed too but actually liked. In a proper Bond film women are there to be used. (Not PC I know, but it's true)

Loved his line "waste of good scotch".

I wonder if anyone can explain why Bond knew anything about, or even the reason for the existence of, the Goldfinger DB5 when Bond was "restarted" with Casino Royale?

ie If James Bond became 007 in 2006, what is he doing with a 1964 car full of spy-type gadgets?

He won the car in CR so it's presence is justified. As for the nod to the gadgets one would assume that any vehicle 007 acquires and wishes to use would be upgraded with all the goodies, including an ejector seat.

Someone had a theory once that said James Bond 007 is in fact an alias adopted by different people throughout the years. He used the theory to explain why Q, M, Moneypenny etc. all looked the same when Bond's appearance keeps changing.
I thought it was a pretty interesting theory. It would help explain the DB5 as well.

Yeah, I heard that one as well but that's not the way they went when they did Royale. I think they shot themselves in the foot by rebooting then trying to give us a cheeky wink with the DB5.

I used to believe in the theory as well, until this film. Since we've seen Bond's home, tombstone for his parents...etc.

Ya, that theory is debunked many times over.

1. OHMSS - Lazenby goes through his desk remembering Connery missions.

2. FYEO - Moore lays flowers at his murdered wife's grave. She was murdered while married to Lazenby.

3. SF - We see the grave of Bond's parent. Clearly his actual name is James Bond.

There are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. :)

He wasn't gay, he was just messing with Bond I think.
Regarding his revenge, it's rather simple : M traded him against six other agents to the Chinese after he messed with them on his own, and despite that he endured torture at the hands of the Chinese he gave nothing up until he realized M really had abandoned him. He clearly had mommy issue though !

(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Exactly. My only complaint about his was that he was under used. Would have loved to see more of him!

The Joker! I couldnt put my finger on who Silva reminded me of, boom Joker! Thanks O_B

Wow, Bond is back! The obligatory intro action scene was great! Tension, drama, amazing motorcycle chase. The train bit was a little over the top but not too much, loved it. Really liking the Adele theme song, thought the opening credit sequence could have been better (I miss Maurice Binder) but certainly more back to Bonds roots and that's the story of this movie. BOND IS BACK where he should be. The film has somewhat erratic pacing and scenes which are very long but in context and totality are worth the wait. Some action sequences are better then others and I don't think they really get as exciting as the opening. The villain played by Javier Bardem is mesmerizing and creepy. Very Heath Ledger Joker. There are a couple of WTF, how did that happen moments, but it's a long movie and clearly had to be edited down (how did Bond survive the shot and fall and where is the bullet wound from Moneypenny's sniper rifle and how did Bardem escape?). But the ending with an amazing look into Bond's past is great, Albert Finney as the "butler" is a nice addition. The scene where they get the DB5 gave me chills and the scene where it's destroyed and the look on Bond's face made me smile. And the death of M was very touching and I got a little misty! Finally the last scene in the classic MI6 office, wow, BOND IS BACK!!!

Oh, and I think there is no doubt Bardem's Silva character is gay and I applaud them for being bold and showing that.

I loved it, less of the bourne bond pale imitation he's become the last two movies.
With the end scenes with gamekeeper i got the feeling that they may have written that for Sean Connery, wonder if they approached him, being the anniversary and all that

That would have been VERY cool to see. Never in a million years would he do it but I would have audibly squealed in the theatre. :lol

Well, this is it. No more set up, no more origin story. Bond is back, we're going after Quantum and make those scum bags pa- Oh, wait. John Logan is writing this? Stuart Baird is editing this? This is almost like a Star Trek Nemesis reunion. I'm sure you remember that movie and how it killed the Star Trek film franchise. But this is a different franchise, different film, and for what it is it's ok. It's NOT in my top 10 favorite Bond films (Seriously, I like Quantum a lot more), but it does a decent job. Where it doesn't do a decent job is...

Q: What were you expecting? An explosive pen?

:angry

At least the explosive pen didn't have a ˜ç™£•®™¡£¶ LED light telling us whether or not it was armed. I mean, really? We as an audience had to have it spelled out for us with bright shiny red lights that the gun wouldn't work? Please tell me you have more faith in your audience than that.

Oh, and that pen is one of my favorite Bond gadgets and it was used perfectly in Goldeneye. This film decides to not only mock it by saying that the new Q Branch is new and improved and they don't use such useful practical things anymore, but it also gives us a gadget that would only work on bad guys who cannot figure out that red lights equals bad. And of all the guns that Bond uses in the movie, this is the only one that a bad guy actually tries to use on him. Fancy that. Why not give the guy a brief electric shock or have it create a small explosion for Bond to take advantage of? I know we don't want Bond to rely heavily on gadgets, but I also don't want him to rely on wacky cgi randomness either.

And the women. Oh, god. The women in this movie. If this film is any indication on how the Bond series is going to use women from now on, I'm done. I get that you want to have the bad guys be evil and all, but we're three for three here on Danielle Craig's Bond movies where the bad guys kill a female character in a horrible way. I gave Casino and Quantum a pass because unlike a lot of previous Bond movies, Craig's Bond actually gave a crap. Not only has the series decided to do it a third time, they have it so Bond no longer cares. Just a waste of a good drink. Enough already.

I thought Sean Connery was going to be the new M as well! :lol I was rather put off with all the build up that it was an already a established character that got the job! :p

Overall I think it was a very good movie, but as previously mentioned, I really didn't like the Bond graves that were at the chapel. I like to maintain the idea that 007 is just an operative that changes as agents cycle through MI6....

007 is. James Bond is not. ;)

As I mentioned earlier that rationalization has never been accurate according to the cannon presented. ;)

Actually I like that they established M "pre M". The films and books long hinted at there being a little bit of a past between Bond & M and this was a nice way to establish the character. Ralph will be a GREAT M I think. :D

Agreed. LOVED LOVED LOVED that scene!!!

Back at Universal Exports HQ where they belong. :D

I want to echo that scene! I was almost expecting Bond to toss his fedora on a coat rack lol Ya that scene was great with Money Penny and that leather cover(?) door.

Good stuff, what a great flick!

AHEM! It's "Moneypenny". :p:lol

Ya, all it was missing was the hat. ;)

Sorry O_B, Miss Moneypenny! I've been trying to finish this New Castle Werewolf 12 pack lol

So are they going to stick with the gunbarrel sequence at the end instead of at the beginning?

I like how they somewhat made M the Bond girl in this movie to give Judi Dench her send-off. I suppose its a sort of tribute for her 7-picture service. :lol

I bet they move the gun barrel sequence back to the beginning. I think they wanted this to be a surprise.

I enjoyed the fact that M told him in Royale never to break into her house again, but in this flick was much more casual about it. Little touches like that and the bulldog showed how her relationship with Bond had grown over the course of his three films.
