My new favorite gun!

Chromed Denix with after market grips. Removing the original Denix grips was a bear. And I had to EPOXY these on! Oh well - I love it!

And I know - in the film he has a pair. Maybe later, I'll do the second...

Those orginals don't look right to me. The barrels look too long, and are they engraved? They look engraved. :) The grips look textured as well. I think they just stuck a couple shiny pistols in those holsters.

YOUR gun looks great though, and man do I feel your pain with the grips. I hate dealing with denix grips.

Thanks Noeland. I'm in love with this one - can't stop playing with it! :lol

I need to order a second set of grips. They weren't easy to find.

If anyone is interested in doing this, I'll offer whatever guidance I can.

Hard to say... With the clout Costner has, I figure he'd be able to get the originals if he wanted to.

I don't see much sign of engraving, but we all see photos a little differently.

Though - I did watch the film last night on (on Blu-Ray, so with very good resolution) and the grips look almost clear. As if cast in clear resin, with just a smidgen of white swirled in there.

The grips in the costume display do look almost like ivory, not translucent pearl. And yeah - in the film, the barrels are of the shorter type. The barrels in the display do look a tad long.

Difficult to say without better pics of the pistols.

The stud, or screw set, or whatever its called was a bear. It seems two flat head screw drivers would do the trick, but uh-uh. I had to drill the mothers out!

I plan on doing a second pistol, and hopefull snagging a belt that is close to Costner's.

Ordered a second set of grips... Will eventually have a matchign pair of pistols.

Have began (begun?) to look on-line at holsters and cartridge belts, but haven't found anything too close.

I don't suppose anyone here has any leads on who did the leather for the film?

Update...

Well check this out...

Was in XCostner's Midnight Star in Deadwood last month, and here is a hi-res shot of the so-called original pistol.

Its my favorite western such a classic . Great gun those are so hard to find.
Only one i would like more then that are Dicaprio's from The Quick and the Dead

Thanks for that link.

On their site they say they do not ship outside the US.

Hmm. Sucks for me.

Does anyone want to order a pair for me to a US address and then mail them to me in Toronto?

I just sent a msg to them asking if they would consider mailing me a pair or 2.

We'll see what they say.

If you need some re-mailed let me know. I'd be glad to help out.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in on this matter since this is one of my favorite westerns. The outfit that Costner wore in the movie (the ones pictured above) is the REAL DEAL as is the Holster however the pistols are NOT the ones used in the movie......... :confused The pistols that Kevin used were nickel plated engraved Colt .45's (4 3/4 inch barrels) and the grips were IVORY not Pearl. Also the holster that Costner wore was made by Arvo Ojala (a very famous cowboy holster maker). Mr. Ojala pretty much did MOST of the holsters used in Hollywood during the 60's. Mr. Ojala is also seen at the begining of the old "Gunsmoke" episodes being gunned down by Matt Dillion..................:eek Yes, he was a BIG DEAL in Hollywood and he actually worked with the cast in Silverado, in fact this was his last movie he worked on before his death.

Hope this helps you all out and sets the record straight......:$

Still like your FAKE PISTOLS..................:love

I almost forgot about this.:)
Maybe in January I'll ask you to buy me a pair of the grips and then ship them out to me. I'll have to get an idea of the total shipping costs both ways. Hopefully they'll still be available.
Thanks.

If you just want to purchase them and have them shipped to me I'll re-mail them either UPS or FedEx to you. Hit me with a PM if you wish to go through with it, and I'll send you my contact info.

For anyone else who wishes to ship outside US I'll do the same for you. Just buy whatever it is you need have it shipped to me and I'll re-ship using carrier of your choice. However my mail center in town uses UPS and FedEx for most of their shipping needs.
