Is decal set really just vinegar?

That's what I have read over on Fine Scale and Hyperscale.

I think it's mostly vinegar but I've tried using straight vinegar in place of it and it doesn't seem to work as well. So I think there is another ingredient in it.

I think it has to be distilled vinegar. Is that what you were using?

Yes. Distilled white vinegar.

It has some surfactant in it too. Probably like 1% though.
