It would be great if we could attach your blade to my skull guard.
Is it solid acrilic or is it casted in a trasluscent resin? The electronics can be hide inside the guard...:love.

wow i just spent two days reading over this entire thread, i gotta say you guys are amazing. i especially love the steam punk inspired stuff, i can't wait to see some finished pieces. i wish i was a better artist so i could add to this wonderful creative thought pool you all have going on. at any rate keep up the awsome work.

The blade material is polycarbonate (Lexan). I hand ground the entire thing using the top curve of a belt sander, a dremel tool with a sanding drum, and various hand files. The grip material is wood (poplar). I used the same tools as I did with the blade (with the addition of sandpaper). I'm glad you all like it.

This has easily become my favorite RPF thread. I love checking in and seeing all the kick a$$ work happening here.
That knife has a really cool anime type feel (as does a lot of the work here) and I love those grips. The lexan blade is cool, but I can't help but wonder what a nice weathered steel blade would like like in that style too
Also, any news, progress, or continued interest in the hub gun?

That knife has a really cool anime type feel (as does a lot of the work here) and I love those grips. The lexan blade is cool, but I can't help but wonder what a nice weathered steel blade would like like in that style too

Had this idea for a Aliens-inspired motion tracker a few days ago.
A smaller unit with a flip-up screen cover (dashed line). No screen on the side, either — it's integrated into the body of the unit. Kinda like a radar gun or an IR thermometer.
Now somebody go build it :lol

Jeez, how the hell did I miss this thread...
Anyhow, I can't really offer anything in the machining department, but I am a concept illustrator and have done a few things for films (Jeepers Creepers) commercials, video games etc.
I like the Steampunk genre and would like to take a stab at that if it's OK....I'd also like to try out some other retro-furturistic styles (more connected with the 1930's and 40's, rather than the victorian era).
I really want to see something more along the lines of the Weta raygun stuff.
