then 2-3 coats of plastidip
then 2-3 coats of adhesion promoted

then ? coats of gloss?
am i correct in saying that?

I'd say at least 8 coats of tacky glue/water mix. 1:1 ratio. Mix well. 12 coats max.
And 1 - 2 coats of adhesion promoter.
100 grit sand paper to smooth Down any bumps /ruffness.
And at least 2 coats of gloss.
Lots of time spent but well worth it.

thanks!
and just one more thing
how do you plan to make the unibeam? thats the only part of my costume i dont have planned out yet

This is my mark I arc reactor. But I'm going to use it in place of my unibeam. It's made from sheet metal and other parts from Home Depot/RadioShack.

I plan on adding a potentiometer to the mix to change the light effects on the fly.

3 layers done of plasti dip on the arms, shoulders, hands, hand guards and feet.

great foam work!!! To fill up small gaps you can use acrylic sealant! You can paint right over that stuff.

So use the acrylic resin right over the plasti dip to fill in the gaps? I was planing on putting on some adhesive promoter next, softer the plasti dip and before the paint. So plastic dip-acrylic resin for gaps, and then paint? I'm also planning on using dupli color paint from VIP. Any other advise that you have?

Hey, not Acrylic Resin. It's Acrylic Sealant. It's similar to silicone caulk. You can get it in the same tubes. It's not as flexible as silicone but still flexible enough. Also you can paint over it with any paint you like... you can't paint over silicone caulk. Another thing you should consider before painting: The foam costume stays a bit flexible. So make sure that your paint job stays flexible too or you will have cracks showing.

Just wondering, did you make it so the abs articulate? Or do you think the foam is flexible enough that you don't need to? I saw you start and i just lurked. Nice job on the armor, your is a HECK of a lot better than mine. Might have to try the masking tape method myself xD

Yes the abs are 4 pieces connected by a stretchy strap.

And so are the 4 sections of the entire abdomen. I made this whole section into a suspender type system to wear. The front and connect to the bottom middle of the chest piece and then to the top middle of the cod

I don't mean to hijack but you can check out a detailed documentation of the articulated abs here:
