Hi all this is my first post and wanted to say a great big thank you to everyone here. I decided to build myself an Ironman costume, but then when my wife entered Race for Life (cancer research charity) i decided it would be a good idea to make a Pink ironman suit for her to wear. She didnt like the Pepa Pots rescue armour, so we decided to go for Mk4 instead...

Donations for the cause would be good too!!! i have build pics if anyone is interested, and will update as the race goes on. The race is on Sat 23rd june 2013, this sunday and costume isnt quite finished..Wish me luck!!!

Hi ramases, tidy looking suit you got there ! Hope it doesn't get too battered during the run.

It would be good to hear how your wife and the suit get on after the event.

Wish her luck !

Wow, perfect timing Ramases! I too have been a member of the forum for a few years and am in the middle of my foam build (mark vii). As a first time I'm not sure if it is looking good or bad yet. Chest, back, neck and brace done. Taking a bit longer than normal as I only do a bit after I get home from work. I'm also using 6mm camping mats and hopefully these will be good enough.

Anyway!!!
The reason I'm writing is - last night my wife said "Oh, that's coming on well. What are the chances that you would make me one also?". And here I find myself trawling for others. There is this AWESOME thread that has the Pepper Potts Rescue armour so I was going to use this as a basis and maybe parts of Extremis and the other IM versions.

What was your plan, if you don't mind me asking?
Oh, and ours would be for Halloween/ComicCon stuff nothing as mad as running in.

Ok, maybe you need a bit of back story..

Firstly, like most people here i decided i wanted an ironman costume. Then decided i wanted to make one for my 5 year old son. So i did what most people here have done and googled it. that brought me to the world of Pepakura and the wonderful RPF.

I did start with paper pep'in with the following results...IMG_1363.JPG

This was slow, and then came the realisation that with a wife and 2 small kids, it would take me years to build this, let alone the fact that i work full time, meaning maybe 3 hours a night to build, if i go to bed after midnight? Then there is the whole issue of fiberglass and dangerious chemicals......not going there anytime soon....Then i discovered Steath's foam build threads....what a great guy!!!

But before i bought any foam i decided to do, the thing every one warns you not to do..i built the helmet first!!! and i used cardboard!!!!

Thought it worked quite well, and gave me the confidence to buy foam and try that...... So i bought some camping mats, way too thin and flexiable.....IMG_1420.JPGIMG_1382.JPGIMG_1383.JPGIMG_1409.JPGIMG_1410.JPGIMG_1421.JPG

As you can see not a great result, but the craft foam i tested with the hand worked well, I also decided to build paper hands first to check the size.

OK so from there i did more research into foam and decided to take a page from Xrobots thread and buy some Plastazote (if your in the UK i bought mine from Plastazote & Polyethylene Sheet)
I loved this so i bought it in only 6mm, and in the colours i wanted the final armour to be in. just for the fun of it...

So here is the first helmet i made with it....

From there i went on to build the top half of armour..

I also wanted to test it for other projects, so Judge Dredd seemed like a good one to test...

Then, about a month ago my wife told me she had entered Race for Life, a cancer research charity, a 5k race for women only, and they wear pink!!! Idea!! Ironman in pink and white....

As you can see, my spare room is getting a bit full..

But with only 2 days to go, still a lot to do, and i will update as times goes on with pics from the race that takes place on Sunday.

After that i will finish my own build, make my son's then cover them all in Styrospray 1000 and paint the day away!!!! they should then withstand a good bit of abuse and will last for a long while, except will probably need to make my son one every year as he grows so much!!!!

ramases, which helmet file is that. It looks great.

Hi used "Sharkhead7854-ironman-helmet-foam-unfold-by-JFcustom" for the Helmet and robo3687's Iron Man MK4 - JFcustom's foam version for the rest of the armour, all needed to be tweaked a little to fit, but after a few attempts with scale all worked out fine...

Well race went well, and costume is still fully intact, just one knee screw came out.....and thats after a 5K run!!! Here are some pics...
