Iron Man props (helmet - reactor - armor)

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

Awesome, thanks for the update! Very interested to see what you can do with cold cast.

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

Guys, first cast will be pulled before week ends. The new mold is good, so is plastiplaste all around.

This time I've been very careful.
I just hope the new casts come out as good as the original.
The old ones were narrower than the master....don't know why.

As soon as I pull the first cast I'll post the pics and I'll start taking payments
Also, I should be able to give cold-casting a try

Here's the first cast.
From side to side it's 15.5 Cm (about 6.2 Inches) The helmet is way larger at ear-height.
I've been able to slip the helmet over my head much better, compared to the previous casts (pulled from former molds). If you still have troubles, you can cut the back part easily. The ear can be cut fairly easy ;)

But anyways, I think most of you guys should be able to slip it over. The urethane plastic is a little flexible and that makes everyhing easier ;)

Here you have more pics of the first pull:

Actually it has some minor flaws, but I had a little problem with the rubber mold...I didn't put it well in the plasti-paste mold :D

p.s. the new mold has the line that goes from the ear to the bottom of the neck of the helmet, which the previous molds didn't have ;)

Wow.... There isn't much more that I can say that could explain your pure awesomeness LOL Nuts man, simply nuts :eek

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

What resins and metal powders did you use to cold cast that last helmet? it looks awesome. Will it be able to take on a mirror shine finish like the MK II or is there not enough metal surface area for that?

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

That looks Great, keep on wirewool the piece. Dont put any clear coat or spray anything on top, it will dull it down. Keep it as it is.
The finish of the coldcast will not look like a mirror finish. The orginal was chromed and then wirewooled down. However i like the finish of coldcast better than chrome. It looks more industrial.

Thanks for the information TMP, i appreciate it! as far as resin goes, would you be able to cold cast with a fiberglass resin? Also, is it possible to cold cast with Tungsten metal powder? While tungsten is indeed very heavy, I feel it would give a prop a nice authentic weight. Also its extremely strong and scratch resistant.

Just some thoughts running through my head, anyone have any opinions on Tungsten cold casting?

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

For cold casting I'd not know...I tried once and I don't know if it even came out good...

Anways, I'd like to show you guys one pictures that made me win a web contest.
They asked us to write a 10-lines email and write about what we are expecting from the movie and why the web site should have chosen us to send us to watch the italian premiere...

So i wrote the email and attached this picture with this phrase:

And here is my family and I, joyfully watching the special contents of the first Iron Man DVD :D

Also, the premiere is tomorrow night :D

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

The picture is priceless, glad you won! Let us know how awesome the movie was.

Question about the helmet, how are you planning to keep the faceplate and the back of the helmet in place? I'd assume magnets like others have done, are you going to build up some tabs on the inside for the magnets?

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

I think magnets.
I've cut a cast last night. It's now 3 parts and I'm off to buy some 2mm sintra to make adjustments and mods. Then I'll think about the whole snapping process. Also, I think I might do 2 different cheek details. One smooth as the hero suit, the other one with the lines and ridges as you've seen in the pics on this thread. I think I'm gonna make those two parts as stand alone, so that you will be able to choose which one you wanna use. Just a thought, still need to see if it can be done ;)

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

liking your work... sweet seeing all your steps. i wish i would've took as many progress pics. do you have to cut the back of the helm to fit it or can it fit like one piece?

Re: Iron Man Helmet Sintra V2.0 (V 1.0 lays in ruins)

You need to push the helmet from the front and the back with both hands in order to widen the helmet a bit and slip it over your head. That's if you have a 24'' head like I do.

Thanks ;)
