I decided I wanted something Iron Man ish in my cosplay wardrobe so I started working on a Mark 42 suit. My figuring there was that with the mk 42, even if I didn't finish the suit, I could wear pieces of it and still make sense. I started with a gauntlet. I built a cardboard model but ruined that experimenting with plastidip. Then I made another duplicate model and tried using spackle to smooth it out. When that failed to meet my expectations I turned to body filler. Unfortunately the layer of spackle ended up creating a moisture bubble underneath the bondo and it cracked and fell off while I was etching it.

R.I.P. MK 42 Gauntlet:cry
I still wanted to proceed with my suit but I didnt have the heart to make another gauntlet so I decided to make a helmet. I started with a cardboard base using my own pattern, but somewhere along the way I decided I liked the look of the Mark 45 helmet better. Its similar to the Mark 42 in most respects, but different enough to warrant editing my pattern. After a lot of trial and error and hot glue, I came up with this.

I bondo-d the face plate and sanded it down, then applied a light silver coat to see where i needed to add more bondo and which areas needed to be touched up with spot cream. This is the faceplate as of this morning.
