Ok I'm the guy making one for myself.
It's just that I'm in the process of moving my shop to Portland. This intails moving Laser machines, CNC, Lathe, Drill presses, Pressure chambers,etc etc. I'll be making mine while the Actors strike happens. Not much is happening this month. Production is a bit slow due to that. I'm looking for work but everyone is holding off until that gets settled.
If someone wants to move this tread that's fine. Once I have all in place I'll be building mine asap. Not to worry. I'd post a picture of what I have, but it might blow your mind. PM me and I'll share with explanation of picture.
so please hang on just a bit, it's a big shop to move.
Once I move to my new shop I'll have a prop party and those who can attend are welcome to visit and I'll tour the shop.

I have to got to LA this next week and do a couple of bits on "Land of the Lost" . Once I get back I'll give you a call and we can have lunch. I'd like to talk about the lighting efffect on this thing. I have an electronics guy but it's always good to see others and their talents.
Yes, I'm going to have a party. I was kicking around putting together a powerpoint show of the last 25 years of shuff I've done. Good to have that so when I die they can play it at my funeral and say " hey he did that?, I never knew that"

Some thoughts on this prop.
Here is a reply to fellow rpf member, thought I'd share some thoughts on it. Maybe some of yo might suggest other ideas.
The light effect is the main deal with this prop. I was planing on making a desk version only, therefore the base is where the batteries or power would come from. Since most people put these in their office or their own prop rooms it calls for display. Problem arising with light is heat. LED and Flourecents are two ways I was thinking of this prop. You would need lots of LEDs to get an even light effect therefore heat. Flourecents are cooler to a point but would require a neon glass blower but less wiring involved. I believe they used LEDs in the movie, probably super bright ones. To get that much light they either over cranked the camera or enhanced afterwards the prop via CG. Now since you are in the UK you need to make sure the one you make can use a power converter in the wall to supply the amount necessary for the display piece. Having that many lights would drain a battery quick. That is why I was thinking wall power. A prop that is mostly always on. Kind of like a desk lamp.
Two problems arise, one is still the heat created by so many LEDs in a small area. The other is dust on the plexi case. After many cleanings it will begin to scratch. So now do I use plexi cases or glass ones. Is this something that one would own for a long time (Glass) or put it on a shelf with many others (Plexi).

One day I'm going to make a coffee table book or a How TO Make Props book.
Since I'm an outside labor shop I don't get film credits as much as those who are paid by production. I'm asking for it more and more these days but I'd rather still have the cash.
But I will offer up a version of the power point . I have thousands of pictures. Boxes and boxes way before digital.

As for the plexi/glass case. I say don't bother. Some people will display it without a case anyway. I prefer to make my own case, so it will fit the others I have. I understand that the case is part of the prop as seen in the movie, but it is more important for me to have the actual arc generator done professionally than the case.

Can I add another idea?
Since from the looks of the photos (page 2), it could be from a 5Watt White Luxeon LED and with a frosted lens in the front. And since the whole "heart" is construted in metal, the whole metal assembly could function as the Luxeon LED's heatsink.
To drive the Luxeon cooler, some electronics guy (not me, I am weak in this PWM area) could muster up a PWM circuit. And in fact, he could use the PWM circuit to make the heart glow dim and bright if he wants although this is not movie canon.
Then, for finish, you could set it up with a wireless remote which you could "light" up the heart from far away...........

My take on the plexi/glass issue is to just provide the 'Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart' round plaque separately to those who want it so that buyers can make their own case and mount the plaque themselves. This reduces the price of the prop AND shipping.
I just viewed the said remote together with Mr.Engineer a few days ago, and that thing has a LOT of possibilities in making a prop that much cooler.

not a bad idea. I was thinking of having this inside a glass display cabinet anyway, so to have it in another case again is a bit redundant. then again, it could always be a side thing for someone to make a bunch of cases to fit.
I like the idea of the dimming, that of course could easily be handled by a rheostat on the base as well, but I would not favour that approach if running variable voltage through the LED would be likely to eat into it's display life.
