that sucks!

That looks fantastic, did you use car paint to paint it? I can't wait to see the helmet! :)

Awesome job! I noticed many who venture the foam route have different methods/tools of cutting. Which do you prefer? Scissors? Mat cutter? Utility blade?

scissors

I guess it depends on how thick of foam you are using

yeah automotive paint is the way to go... very expensive though! I'm painting the helmet tomorrow :p

This is awesome! I've been working on my Mk VI for some time now... can't believe you did all this in such short time... guess I need to disconnect the internet so I don't get tempted checking RPF too often :)

I haven't even got to the sealing part! Waaah!

Re: Iron Man Mark 7 [FOAM] - 7 Day Build (90% done New pics page 2!)

What size foam are you using for the helmet? I've already went down the traditional pep route of the iron man mark 5 suit. For the mark 7 i wanted to try foam but wasn't too sure about the foam size on the helmet for stabilty. Is plasti dip give a nice hard coat or is there still some flex in the material?

Helmet is not foam. It' is fiberglass.

Foam helmets are nice and easy, but the sides push out and deform. Makes the helmet fat. :lol

I didn't mean to double post

The trick is to seal and paint as your building the other parts :love

Re: Iron Man Mark 7 [FOAM] - 7 Day Build (90% done New pics page 2!)

Uhh.. so I ran into a problem while painting the faceplate! I smudged it somehow and I tried wiping it away and it only got worse! I guess I sprayed to much paint in that area.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I'm guessing I'm going to have to sand again...

I ran out of plasti-dip on the 3rd layer so the paint soaked in a little. :cry

You'll have to sand that faceplate down and start over. It looks like you're spraying too much at once... Several light coats is the way to go

Here is the painted helmet! I'm not the best at painting but I'm happy with this.
I haven't cut out the eyes or bottom back piece to make it wearable yet.

I just need to do the lights for the helmet and suit and assemble the parts with the joints!

Your helmet looks awesome, is it foam?

Re: Iron Man Mark 7 [FOAM] - 97% Done (Painted Helmet page 3)!

How do you apply the plasti dip? Do you use any adhesion primer in the process?

just spray on 3 coats, wait 30 minutes between each coat.

So I'm super bored of working on it now. I put the suit on but I honestly don't like wearing it. I want to just stand it up on a mannequin... So you wont see it standing until I do.

The boots fall of the bed so you can't see them haha..

Oh and I ran out of the red paint i was using for the suit while i was painting the joints so I used a darker red from my Mark III. I also didn't really make a neck piece because I got lazy..

Looks great! You should be wearing it proud! A huge inspiration for me as i slowly work on my build. Dying to know, can you please share how you made and are making the joints?

Re: Iron Man Mark 7 [FOAM] - 97% Done (Painted Helmet page 3)!
