Iron Man 3 (Post-release)

The armours could've had more screen time I think...
Two things I noticed..
1) Iron Patriot has that big gun on his back, pretty sure it doesn't get fired at all in the movie.
2) I think I saw someone wearing Thor's helmet in the 1999 party scene....

You got some valid points, but those can be explained quite easily :

- Pepper can walk in the armor, which shouldn't be difficult at all, but she can't use it. Noticed how she couldn't control the repulsors ? See, she couldn't really use it, just move in it. With the exception of Pepper blasting Killian at the end, I put that on the extremis treatment she got.
- It's not the address giving that triggered the attack, it's the threat Tony made to the mandarin.
- His previous suits could indeed take a lot damage, but the MK42 is only a prototype that is not combat ready. Jarvis said it. It is purely to test the new assembling method. Therefore it has a tendency to fall apart when taking heavy hits, especially when it's empty.
- that wasn't said in the movie, but it is in the comics : at one point medical science got good enough to remove the shrapnel from Tony's heart without killing him, this wasn't the case before.
- all the suits have integrated batteries, how else do they work on their own ? The arc in Tony's chest must serve as an alternative power source, though I imagine that nearly dying in IM1 after emptying his own arc, he now prefers not to use his own too much.
-extremis soldiers can withstand a lot of things, including severe burns and lost members from explosions nearby them, but once they explode themselves they are dead, disintegrated. That's why they never find explosive devices, there is nothing left. Don't know where you got the idea they can explode and live.
- the president can't use the armor, he's trapped in it while AIM controls it. The only guy that seemed to kinda use it was Killian's henchman in the plane, but even him I'm not sure he knew how to use the weaponry, since he just punched people or shot them with a normal gun.
-He goes on about caring more for her, not exactly protecting her, what she wanted was to spend more time with him. Plus he will make at least one new suits in the future, that's what is implied when he picks up the screwdriver and the two robots in the trailer of the R8 e-tron. He's just not going to spend his all time building 40+ suits on the basement again.

What I can't explain neither is the weakness of the suits other than the mk42. Quantity over quality ?

To add to your points. Aim rebranded warmachine. Killian owns aim. Thus his henchmam has had access to it. Note killian saying to the henchman that he can fix it if he damaged it while heating it up. Wouldnt necessarily say the other suits are weaker. They tended to get ripped apart from the burning extremis guys. But still. Most of the other armors are buolt for specific purposes. And underwater. Sub orbital. Heavy lifting etc. They may have not been all for fighting but to aid tony in various tasks.

I honestly dont know why people still think a super villain mandarin wouldnt have been cheesy. And there was a supervillain in this one. Killian lol

I'm neither a comic reader nor an Iron Man 'expert' on past material outside of the movies but here are my thoughts:

1. A good balace of suit power as well as Tony Stark brain power
2. I did not see the Mandarin plot twist coming at all
3. Where were the US authorities? I didn't see them help one bit so it seemed
4. Enjoyable dialogue between Stark and Harley (the child), helped push Tony to learn control a little
5. Barrel of Monkeys? NICE!!

Again I'm no Iron Man professional but I've enjoyed the movies and this was no exception.
As long as I'm entertained for the time I'm there I'm usually pretty happy, but the shedding of the Iron Man 'ball and chain' at the end really made me think....this can't be the end can it?
But the screwdriver and tools from the workshop at the end just puts it out there that 'I've gained control and learned what's important in my life'

I did like the references to Avengers as well, the 'incident in NYC'...but referencing that and yet having none of the others help seemed odd.
Of course it's an Iron Man movie, not an Avengers movie but if we put it into real world perspective...why wouldn't they help?

OK I'm thinking too much and taking it apart when I should just enjoy it for what it was....a blockbuster movie.
I enjoyed it, I think the majority of other people will to.

I can't understand the criticism of the suits falling apart...doesn't that give more credibility to everybody's foam built suits when they fall apart at the cons?:lol

If just mentioning New York sends Tony into a panic attack then actually seeing the other superheroes would really freak him out? I got the impression that he was the one avoiding them, because of the panic attack.

I've read one IM comic, in about 1976. Like the films, liked this one, liked the mandarin twist. I would have disliked a magician in the mandarin role - the film is tech based. Magic wouldn't go down well (although "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.").

I thought that it was important to see Tony in this third film dealing with 90% of his problems without sitting inside some invulnerable suit. Not knowing the comics, I could care less about seeing more of the other suits, as a good film isn't about the CGI, it's about the humanity.

I thought so too. He also tells Pepper in the message that he needs time to figure things out so he's going to lay low, stay off the grid for a while or so, though that didn't end up lasting very long...

Huh. Kevin Spacey's line from Superman Returns? :lol

Though having him run out and about in the suit and kicking ass certainly didn't hurt. :D

Why does the feature banner on the main page take me to this thread? It doesn't make any sense... :facepalm

The feature banner is to go to the place where you can review the film or read reviews. Esentially this thread. Thats not all its for. But its just a suggestion for latest trends type thing I think. Thats why it brings you to post release.

Uhh, that blueprint poster only has 41 suits on it, together with Tony Stark in the bottom middle. You can't see the names clearly but I'm guessing that the Mark 42 is missing? Otherwise those are some pretty cool posters there.

I saw the Mandarin twist coming. (Though I still enjoyed it) However I thought they were going to do a double bluff and end up revealing that the face of the Mandarin REALLY WAS the Mandarin all along...or that the Vice President was really "The Master."

So even though I saw the twist, I still over thought it enough to enjoy it.

Fun movie and the end title sequence was fantastic. Very retro.

I'm exhausted from being at the marathon all day - seriously, we showed up at 9am - but I will say one thing for now. I like all of the nods to the Extremis comic arc; Maya's explanation of what it does in the very first scene is word-for-word taken from the comic. Stark kills one of the enhanciles with his unibeam. Killian breathing fire. It's little things like this that I appreciate.

Well, the Chinese certainly appreciated what they did with the Mandarin and the additional footage. Opening Wednesday 21.5 million.Over 300 million worldwide before the American opening. I guess Iron man 4 will happen if they offer RDJ ,I don't know, perhaps his own real working Iron man suit.

Probably will be cheaper then his fee! Worth every penny though in my opinion.

P.s wish we got the marathon over here. Only had avengers and im3 double bill. Imax though so still good.

Okay, I have a question. Mandarin was a smokescreen for Killian and AIM, but all the Mandarin videos featured the Ten Rings flag that was also in the first film. So was Killian funding the Ten Rings way back then as part of a long con in his endgame? Was he thus party in some capacity to Tony's capture?

Cool movie, a little dark but cool. Found it interesting that the tag says "Tony Stark will return," not that "Iron Man will return." Not sure if there's anything to be read into that.

After that tag on the end I wish even more that we could get another Hulk movie. Please Marvel, I'll beg!

I doubt it was ment to go that deep. They seem to have destroyed everything Favreau did. Except for the relationship. At a guess? Ten rings are a terrorist group. People probably know of the ten rings. So killian used a famous terrorist group as his cover. Ring copies or aquired etc. As people knew they were the real deal. Or its just an easter egg and they arent ment to be related to the actual terrorist group. It doesnt really explore that the Mandarin is part of the ten rings. Just shows some rings and a picture.

Several things: 1: I loved the movie. probably one of the most satisfying conclusions to a trilogy in my eyes.
2: I love how the main extremis storyline was followed directly from the comics(can't remember what the arc was called, but I'll figure it out) They eve payed homage to obadiah stane's son (In the comics, he acted as the "Killian" of the story) By making the main extremis henchman (Buzzcut guy.) look exactly like the comics representation of him.
3: Was floored by the mandarin reveal. I loved it.
4: THe scene where he goes all Macguyver and infiltrates Killian's HQ was amazing. One of the best scenes, in my opinion.
Also, did anyone notice that most of Sark's best banter was with children?

Wow I guess Im the minority here, but I saw it last night, and I didnt like it. I wanted to like it SO MUCH, but once The Mandarin was revealed to be just a smoke screen, I got so let down. I thought the Extremis dudes tore into the Iron Man suits WAY too easily, and they didnt show too much variation in the suits. They showed the Igor one jack up the building, and the other one split apart and reconnect, but that was about it. I was SUPER excited because Shane Black was at the helm but man. Talk about let down. I havent been this discouraged since TDKR... :cry
