Iron Man 3 (Post-release)

I'm seeing a lot of mentions of the mk42 falling apart, but I don't get it. Every time that suit broke apart it was due to Tony motioning it to do so, excluding the bus and when it showed up right at the end.

I know it pro ally already been discussed to death..but Pepper fell two hundred feet. Through FIRE. Just what was her sports bra made of?

Just saw it. Loved it. Great summer movie fun. Liked that the emphasis was more on Tony as a person than the suits. Enjoyed the humor. Don Cheadle's line about, "Oh, you breath fire." was awesome. My whole theater cracked up.

You do realise that was not the "hulk buster" armor....Correct? It was a "heavy lifting armor".... Called Igor. And it did its exact job.. lifting a heavy platform to stabilize it...

Actually, no, I didn't realize it. Looking at comments everywhere online, neither did anyone else until the production book came out.
So, yet again, anti-climactic bad writing. Lets make a new armor that everyone will mistake for a well known armor, that has a very exciting purpose to... lift things.
Can't wait to see the forklift armor for IM4. They can brand it with a Home Depot logo for ad placement. Maybe they'll have door opening armor and stair climbing armor too! :)

Still waiting for my art book... the publication dropped the ball on this one, Art of Avengers was released the day the movie came out last year. If they weren't going to show the suits much in the movie, I'd like a good look at them in the artwork, is that too much to ask for???

Apparently, yes.

I saw earlier this week and I loved it and I'm surprised at all the hate that I'm reading here. So the Manadarin wasn't exactly he was in the comics, bfd, it should be obvious by now that the MCU doesn't always follow the Marvel Comics Universe and is its own canon. People are also forgetting that we did get true Manadarin in the movie, it just wasn't somebody in a costume with 10 rings but he was a true baddy, it was Killian. He even says as much in the movie and he also explains why doesn't go in front of the cameras himself and why he has Ben Kingsley's character, it's all distraction and misdirection designed to throw everybody off the scent from him. He also does it because he doesn't want to be a target, that's what happens to the Bin Laden's of the world when they start making and releasing videos and issuing threats, they make themselves targets and Killian doesn't want to be a target which is why he doesn't come out in public to be the moustache twirling villain.

As for not getting much on the suits, there's really no need to. The movie was pretty long as it was already and by having some scenes showing Tony in a few more suits doing whatever they're supposed to do would only serve to make the movie longer and slow the pace down. Would it have all of the hard-core armor/Iron Man fanboys happy, sure; would it have made for a better movie, not likely. Besides, the movie wasn't about the armors, it was about Tony and him coming to grips with his nightmares from te NYH incident and his relationship with Pepper. That also explains why the armors fell apart so easily, he was cranking them out at night and at 30 something suits between IM 2 and IM 3, that's a lot of suits which means he probably wasn't spending a whole lot of time perfecting them, just cranking them out one after another. He probably only spent enough time to make sure that they actually worked before moving on the next and likely never took the time to field test anyone of them. Take the Mk. 42, he obviously never did anything more than to make sure that it turned on and that he can walk around in it, control it via remote, and talk to Jarvis, he never got around to seeing if the flight systems work, much less if any of the weapons were online. Judging by the way things were going he was probably getting ready to at least start the planning for the Mk. 43 until the Mandarin attack forced him to use it in the field without any prior field testing.

Frankly I thought the whole panic attack angle was just thrown in to give the trailers some depth/darkness... But none of this is really resolved for Tony. So he's having panic attacks because he fears he cannot protect the ones he loves? But blows up all his suits like popcorn, his only means to protect anything on earth pretty much.

I enjoyed the film, but I don't get all the high praises. Would have preffered we got to see some of the more specialized suits even if it meant a longer runtime.

I thought the same. My thought would have been if Pepper had died by the Mandarin and Tony couldn't stop him in time, etc, it would have been understandable for him to have panic attacks. He has been in high stress/combat situations for a couple years when Avengers came out. Now flying into space and seeing aliens has you stressed? Bit much or a stretch. And he just kind of got over it. Bit of a cop out just to be like, "Ok, I blew up my suits. I'm done. I'm all better now."

Hi all.

I think the best way to describe how I feel about Iron Man 3 is to start with an analogy.

As you're gingerly walking along the street this guy approaches you and says "dude, just look at what I've got at a very special price" and shows you this sparkly Rolex watch (the IM4 trailer). You look at it for a second and think "wow this looks really nice, I think I'll buy it". As you're walking home satisfied with your purchase you look at it and it sure looks like a Rolex, sure feels like a Rolex and even sounds like a Rolex. As you get home and start thinking about it, it's when things just start to not make sense and you take a closer look. You look at the face and all of a sudden realize that there is a "twist" (Manadarin / Trevor). It doesn't even say Rolex but Kolex. As soon as you remove the face and look inside you realize that it isn't a real Rolex but a poorly made knockoff (bad writing, bad characterization & huge plot holes) and you feel duped and even a little embarrassed that you fell for it.

I went into Iron Man 3 hoping for a movie as good as Iron Man 1 but expecting a movie at least as good as Iron Man 2. I think i probably would've been satisfied with a movie even slightly worse than Iron Man 2. Instead I got a movie that fell way short of both.

I really wanted to like Iron Man 3 but as soon as the little kid walked through the door with his potato gun I just got this bad feeling in my stomach. It became clear that this movie wasn't going to have a darker tone (as promised in the trailer) but that they were instead aiming it at a younger audience. From there, for me at least, the movie slowly started sliding downhill and after the Mandarin / Trevor reveal it completely fell off a cliff and my brain went into power save mode for the rest of the movie.

To me Iron Man 3 is the "Never say never again" of Iron Man movies.

Unfortunately I have to give it a 4/10 rating and even so think it's a bit generous only out of nostalgia towards the previous movies.

Cheers.

the only thing i didnt like was also the mandarin plot , in the comics he was a very formidable villian for iron man and had magical powers due to the rings , and it turns out hes an actor hired by killian wich is the real mandarin but in the comics again killian is just a sscientist not a big bad so yeh kinda ruined it for me as well i did however like the armors and most of the story

Saw IM3 this evening for the second time. It's been a very long time since I've seen any film for a second time in a theater (and I didn't even fall asleep during it).

I still think it holds up very strongly compared to the other films in the series. To me, it still stand shoulder to shoulder with the first one - and might even surpass it in many ways. It is still a comic book / fantasy movie and has the lighthearted bits one would expect.

I think some of the folks in this thread are being way to hypercritical and need to relax a bit. I understand opinions and we all have differing ones... but, it really seems like expectations for this movie were just way too high and some folks are forgetting what these flicks are all about.

There are a parts of it I could nitpick - but, that's true with most films (even moreso with comic book films). I think Marvel Films and the creators got the core of the character right, got a decent storyline and some darn good actors.
