Re: sub orbital suit WIP

This is awesome! Can't wait for this. Atleast you didn't call it "Starboost Iron Man"...:p

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

The starboost jetpack is different than the drawing reference.
The black area in chest plate is also slimmer.

Here is another update on the suit.

Now that iron man 3 action figures is out, hope somebody buy it and take pictures. It'll help a lot.
I've been watching my local toy store, they haven't got it yet, even for starboost.

Thank you for watching

Nice stuff! As you're doing a foam build, today I was trying out hex patterns, I laid down chicken wire and pressed it into a piece of foam (making a slight indentation.) Then I spray painted it straight down & removed the chicken wire, boom it made perfect 2 inch hex patterns!

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

I was just thinking about the chicken wire, heat it and then press it to make the impression.
The problem is, should you do it before cutting or after making the parts?
Aligning the hex on the seam would be a nightmare.
However, your idea is to use the chicken wore as paint masking, that's another good idea.

I got several ideas, but I'll wait until I actually start working on this.

I am still thinking about how to do the eyes.

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

I wonder if wrapping your foam in vinyl (the same kind they use for car wraps) would work. I'm sure you could find a hex pattern that matches the "Gemini" suit

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

forearm, handplate, palm and fingers.

I removed the "bump" on the wrist, not only it is ugly, it'll slow down the build process.
The details will be hand drawn, just like Mk 47

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

If I am not mistaken, the vinyl for car floor mats (?) have the hex indented.
Number two, it is very heavy.

Meanwhile, in 3d universe....

Hm...a pearl white probably nice for the suit. I am just afraid it'll be too bling-bling.

Re: sub orbital suit WIP

I wanted to use silver as base color with some black weathering, and then sprayed with "translucent white". It can be candy white (less bling and single color sparkle) or pearl (multi color sparkle).

Yeah I think candy tone would be good. I am not into the color shopping yet.

I just signed up a contract for Apr 29 till May 19, damn !
