Iron man 3 Mk 8 in pepakura - A collaboration work

Thank you for nice comments.

This file has not been tested. As you see on our previous attempts, not everything we did was a success. It's a learning precess.

Also the pep files only be used as general guidelines, detailed need to be added by freehand. However, we made it as detailed as possible.

We made this for foam build not paper.
Too much work on unnecessary detail for paper that can be easily achieved by foam (gaps between plates).

ahhh well still awsome dude like made sed your doing an awsome job

This is realy nice as soon as you release files imma start building (hope you release it soon)

There is still quite a bit to be done before this is ready to be released. I am leaving all of that up to IMIM2. This was all his idea and he has done the lions share of the work. So as far as I am concerned, these are his files to do as he pleases. I imagine that the files will be ready sooner rather than later for anyone interested tho. :)
*spoiler* I'm working on modeling the chest right now!

That's nice! I think I could still use 'em for my suit's arms as I haven't done them yet. I'm sure it'll be cool.:thumbsup

I know imim2 is busy with work and other "real life" stuff. so this project is getting a lower priority for a few days. but he sure has some work ahead of him!!
here is the updated suit. chest piece is done. those thighs are just stand ins untill they are corrected.

Subscribed guys! I'm pondering making up an Iron Patriot/War Machine build for myself once I've done up my stepdaughters Mk VII and this will definitely come in handy! Or, if I can bring myself to not hate the colour scheme, I might go for the MK VIII lol.

Helagak and IMIM2, congratulations for your work, eager to see more pictures of this project.
It's getting pretty good.

You guys should go for the Mk V when you're done. Your work is killer, and the suitcase suit desperately needs some templates!

Dear god no!! Lol j/k! Good idea. I am actually working on a functional mark V right now. Lots of work to do before there is anything worth showing! I'm waiting for my 3d printer before I can really start building it.
But foam templates are a good idea. I'm going to need something to model after this is done! :)

Functional is cool and all, but I'm more of a "wearable" costumer. If something can't survive being at a con party all night then it's probably not right for me, haha.

I've been considering doing an IM suit for the Iron Man 3 premiere, and my first thought was the Mk V. When the time comes (probably around March) I was planning on use a Mk 4 as the base for chest and abs and free handing the arms and legs. The Mk 1 and Mk 5 are the only ones without templates, and if you guys did some for the suitcase suit you would be heroes among men. And I'd be happy to be the first to use the files. :thumbsup

Apologize for abandoning this project for a while.

Thank you for the nice comments guys! It keeps my spirit up as this project got more downside than the upside.

Special thanks to quovadis0920 and TribalGrind. Your WIP are very inspiringly awesome (you have no idea how I SMURF Helagak earlier about your SMURF). I don't know about Helagak, but I used your build as benchmark (hope you don't mind :confused).

Msleeper,
It'll be too much work for foam pep for sure (Mk5).
Identifying parts will be a nightmare too.
As much as I want to do that, I see a lot of steps need to be done.

If anybody want to do collaboration work with me, I'd be happy to try it out. I have a bit different approach for this suit. I've been thinking about this suit a lot, but I am limited to current resources (skill, knowledge, budget, and most of all: patience). But the biggest problem of all, this suit should be wrapped tightly, so building it without scratch build skill would be quite impossible.

This Mk8 is definitely not for beginners even with pep file (I myself is a newbie). At this point, we are still struggling with the soft copy files. Wait until it gets into real foam build. Frustration level will rise fast.

Helagak probably hate me for my comments and corrections, but I tried to put a lot of details. With our skill limitations, hopefully the build will come up nice.

Basic approach to this build is about the same as Mk5: Make general outline and add the details. I used the terms "plates" consist of "red", "gold", "silver" and "grey". The grey is more "parts" instead of "plates". The 3D objects consists of these plates. The difference is that MK5 got more plates and "grey" than Mk8, but now I got an idea on how to "cheat" that.

Thanks for mentioning Tribal and me here. Tribal's nearly done with his, I'm still making the abs part work better with the rest of the suit though :cry.
And with this recent picture released, I think I'm going to rework my chest.

As you can see, this is a toy release by hasbro, and notice the other parts of the chest and helmet light up. I'm still waiting if this is legit or not so I can work on some electronics for the parts. :thumbsup

What????
I don't think this is right. Small action figure normally is not accurate.
No silver color, thumb and index finger are red.
For that size, the painting is already detailed, it just not detailed enough.
I really doubt this is accurate (no offense to you).

At first, I thought gold is better than metallic beige. However, looking at this, I was wrong. Now I will be in trouble. I can't find metallic beige in spray can. My initial plan is to paint the suit with metallic red / light gold. Perhaps my current gold version (it is called duchess gold) is close enough.

Bleeding light is very easy to do. Make the cut with solder, cover it with plastic sheet+sandblast film, run LED strip on the side, and it's done.
...........................(switch to another tab)

I just look at your WIP picture of the chest. In your case, it'll be a bit difficult since your method is attaching the plates (white foam) into base foam (black one). Perhaps cutting it with xacto knife will do (I can't do it nicely, especially with thick foam).

I got another idea, if you cut it, then cover the whole white foam with sanded transparent sheet, spray lightly paint on the hole (hope the paint is tranlucent enough), you can have bleeding light without any visible hole. In that way you can always turn it on if it turn out the picture above is correct). LED strip has to be placed directly, not sideways.

You two are way ahead of us here. We are bunch of slackers LOL (sorry Helagak). All we've build are left forearm, left hand plate, left shin and a helmet. And all in wrong scale!

We just had another obstacles the the files. Hopefuly it can be resolved fast.
