Iron man 3 Mk 8 in pepakura - A collaboration work

OMG, that is way much better than mine.......
Just amazing.
Did you use actual metal sheet for the grey?

hahah Thank You!! To be fair, its your file..... :)
Yep I've used actual Alluminum sheets overs the foam pieces....
I'm gonna get started on the back soon!! :thumbsup

Never, that is some great modeling! That me, I know how pain staking it is!
Hamster, thanks for supporting us. That chest looks great! I'm glad you are enjoying the files. Good work.
Ironmanmkviii, just fyi, these models were built with foam pep in mind. They SHOULD work for paper pep, but I won't make any gatentees.

Arrgh, wasted my weekend doing the helmet trial.
Change the width scale from 195mm to 210mm, turned out the total helmet is way too big.
Tips to Mk8 helmet builders: don't separate upper and lower lips. Just use solder to draw lines after, cleaner and faster that way.

Finished refolding the helmet, not quite happy, but I'll give my fourth attempt a go. Hopefully it'll turn out good, so I can move to forearm and redo the shins.

download what?
The helmet is not our (me and Helagak) design. It was other, and i didn't post anything for the helmet.
Refer to my first page.

The torso is posted in Junkyard.

@Neuer22:
That's a very good modeling and rendering.
I just need to ask,do you intend to make this for pepakura?

Thank you! :)
I have really no idea how but yes, I definitely want to share a pep when it's finished (don't know if YJ or not). But I would need help to unfold it though.
But it's still a long way to a finished model :(

Thank you very much :) :)
And yessss... It's a pain to model around the reference images. No perfect blueprint lineup at all... It's all about guessing and double checking :D
But you know that for sure!
Keep it up!!

Neuer22,
I wanted to write earlier but decided to hold until you replied.
There are different approach in making 3d object for pepakura than for viewing (or other) purpose.

Yes your file looks great after rendering, but it'll PITA once transferred to pep. It took a while to convince Helagak to "spec down" his drawing, from "very good", to "just acceptable".

I also find it's very hard to an artist that already familiar making 3d objects to create something for pep. I said to Helagak that he need to think as Pepakuran when making the file, otherwise I will have a hard time continuing his work and convert it until actual object.

We had a slow start and really hard times converting this backand forth, but now he can pick up the pace, and did my parts too!

Long story short, your object is WAY TOO GOOD for pepakura. Sorry no intention to be mean. Good 3d model is just no good for pepakura. And you're wasted too much time for it.

If you want to join the team, let me know. If you need my help, just let me know too. PM me.

Thank you GrayFoxFlavio!

It is not my job alone. Helagak is also part of the team, so he deserve the credit too.

And, speaking of teamwork, I would like to introduce a new team member (drum roll).......

Neuer22

He will help us to speed the things up with 3D design. Since he is using Mac and c4d, our software collection used in this project now getting more and more. Hope that he will bring new perspective and fresh set of ideas and of course extra hands.

As Helagak mentioned before, December will be our goal.
Vroom, vroomm..

Welcome aboard neuer :) some extra modeling hands will be welcomed! This has been quite overwhelming for me as this is really my first modeling build anywhere near this complex!
Just remember, these are being built with foam in mind. So your models don't need to be nearly as complex as an hd paper pep. When I finally wrapped my head around that concept, my poly counts were cut down by at least half!

Good news: Finished the left forearm
Bad news: Looks like Popeye's arm

Will try to tweak it a bit to make it look sleeker. I also will change the unfolding into very simple 2 parts only (or 3, or if I am crazy enough, I'll make it single piece). But the finished version should contain several parts, just to be on the safe side.

The picture shows comparison between first build and today's build (black)

Another good news: thigh is almost finished.

Thanks for mentioning :D
So December... :eek didn't know that ^^

Thanks for your kind words! This is also my first project that complex... I hope I can help you! I'll try my very best :)

Finish redraw all the edges, make it sleeker and longer, redraw lines, unfolding it.
Hopefully new forearm v2.0 is final.
Sneak peak on what it'll look like in comparison to v1.0
The mock up is too big, need rescaling again.

The leg is done except i have to go finish making the "silver" parts. not hard but mind numbing... so i took a break to work on finishing the abs and cod. I have come to the conclusion that i have spent entirely too much time staring at iron man's butt and crotch...:confused

anyways, here are a couple quick renders of everything i have so far.

I like the new forearm imim2. but it seems like its a bit big. :darnkids
we really need to come up with a good scaling procedure other than "build it and see!"
