Interesting article on new xbox

Wow I didn't think they could get any worse. I highly doubt I'll even consider buying their next system since I had to replace the 360 twice, power supply, battery's,charger, and hard drive and even though I haven't played in well over a year my second power supply burned out. Also everything was or is officially licensed by Microsoft. (n)thumbsdown
 
I haven't had any issue with my 360 but i bought the best there was and rarely play it anymore. I'm going to get a spare 360 to keep on hand eventually. Sony is thinking of stopping the use of used games too or make you pay a fee to transfer ownership over to you online. They'd also thought of replacing discs with USB sticks.
 
I couldn't really give a **** about used games. I haven't bought any since my original Xbox. Nor have I traded in any of my games since Xbox 1. Although I've thought about it since I have a bunch of 360 games I don't play anymore.

I don't like the idea of having a system that requires you to have a constant Internet connection though. IGN posted a video where they discussed all this and they made a good point that there are a lot of people that don't have access to a stable Internet connection and some that still run dial up. They'll be screwed if they can't connect. I've had it happen several times where my Internet went down and I wasn't able to play online so I said screw it and played single player games.

Starcraft and Diablo did the same thing in a way. When I was in the army, we had no Internet in the shacks and when I went to play Starcraft, I had to jump through hoops to play single player offline and I didn't even get any achievements. I have to replay the game to get them all.

I just don't see this sticking. Microsoft will be pissing off and screwing over a lot of people if they do this. IGN said that if people don't want them to do this, then it's as simple as not buying the new Xbox. Hit MS where it hurts, the pocketbook.

The only problem with that is that people will ***** and ***** and say how they won't be buying it but when the time comes, 90% of them will buy it anyways.
 
Also to add, Ubisoft did this with their games a couple years ago to prevent piracy and people playing used games.

Notice how they don't do that anymore?
 
It's why i stopped playing PC games because i had to deal with Steam. The downside of this is it's going to get harder for us retro gaming folks as kids'll find the old systems and prices will go up. Luckily system wise i have most of them from the 80s-90s that aren't already hard to get.

Let's hope EA learns that their insane 11 days of DS3 DLC and other micro costs are a bad idea.

Not too worried about this. Sounds just like when, before the launch of the 360, MS announced that there'd be no backwards compatibility. The backlash from that forced MS to fix it in a hurry. If there's enough bad press over this, they'll change their minds again.

I only play on the 360 with my nephew and where they have it is quite a ways away from where my dad has their PC and modem. So it would be hard to get a connection. They have wireless, but something in the walls or environment is blocking it. That would probably put that in the not buying category. I just hope 360 games are completely backward compatible with the new console. Not like the Xbox games that may work, but barely.

I don't buy any Ubisoft games for that reason too. I think there are better ways, on PC at least, like Steam or Origin to authenticate your game. You shouldn't have to be treated like a potential criminal every time you start the system.
 
1) Of course Gamestop would say this.. they go out of business overnight if this actually happens.

2) This rumor has been going around for over a year now, for both Sony and Microsoft. It's just a rumor, there's no proof of any kind that either of them plan to actually do it. So hold off until the official console announcements before jumping to conclusions.. this kind of thing happens every time new hardware releases.
 
It's sad knowing that industries are adapting more and more methods of hindering people's efforts to legitimately buy things at a cheaper price and limiting their abilities to sell the stuff that they own.
 
Game companies have always hated the used market as they see it as legal piracy so i still wouldn't put it past them to at least thing of it.
 
Microsoft has been making bad decisions lately, like Windows 8. "Hey, let's make our desktop operating system work the same as our touch screen operating system. People will love sliding tiles on 23 inch monitors." And don't get me started on any of their 2012 branded products.

Despite the fact that I'm not a fan of Windows 8 either it is the future. They haven't figured it out yet but they're on the leading edge of development for the future home computer market.

As for this X-Box rumour I'll believe it when it's announced. It would be a HUGE mistake, much like the PS3's lack of legacy compatibility.
 
There is no way they would risk a move like this...The only thing I can see them doing if they wanted to, was to charge you for a key to download to play a used game...

They actually talked about that too, as long as it's reasonable it's not a bad idea but again the constant internet thing is a no go. Heck my mom turns her comp on and our net drops so low only messengers'll work for 5 minutes.
 
MS and Sony are going the same way, having many patents to diminish used games. Sony was rumored to implement a specific lock on their next gaming plateform but not only limited to the system but the accessories as well If I remember like the WII U which has its tablet/controller said to be region locked at some extend.
That would indeed suck for games as you could only play the games you buy on" your sytem " and not share with friends.
PS Orbis will be revealed in 10 days and Microsoft next plateform in two months or at E3.
We ll see Microsoft move there.

Jedi is right... These are rumors - nothing more, nothing less. To be perfectly frank, MS and Sony don't NEED to implement anything specific against used games - downloads are going to do it for them.
 
Making the new systems not would be, in my opinion, a very stupid and potentially fatal move unless they price them to move. If they cost around the same as the old PS3s and Xbox 360s when they first came out then it's going to be a really hard sell to a lot of parents to fork out some $500 or more for a new system that will, on top of everything, require all new games since none of the couple dozen games that they've bought little Johnny over the years will work for the new system. The same applies to older gamers who have invested a lot in their games and at the very least want their old games to play on the new system while they wait for games to come out for the new one.
 
I think i'm going to stop getting systems once they go to download content only. If i'm paying you a ton of cash for something you better give me something to hold in my hand.
