Information needed, enterprise communicator

Hello All:
So I decided that it was time to do a new scratchbuild project. I plan to make a universal translator from Enterprise. Not the toilet thingy, but the first one (The cool one) that the communicator clipped into. Then I got to thinking, I should first make a communicator. I know that Roddenberry has a great kit, but I'm in the mood to scratchbuild, so does anyone have accurate or close enough measurements that I could use to scale? Just something with so tall by yae wide with a flip door so by so?
Thank kind of thing!
Thanks

The AA toy are screen accurate for the later seasons.

Here is what I have. Cool idea and I too am currently working on an Enterprise comm. Mine is an AA conversion with aluminum top and grid. Make sure you post photos. If you have not seen it over in the TNG prop thread there is a great picture of the translator you are talking about.

BTW, if you end up making some of the knobs out of machined aluminum make a few extra for me!!!! I'll buy them from you. :)
