Imperius : Archangel of Valor (Diablo 3)

Thanks all!

Yeah Cap, I used my little vaccuum table. Just heated up the 1mm styrene to high hell (3+ inches of droop sort of deal) - it worked for what I needed.

That looks nice so far. where did you find sintra that thick? I wanted some for an axe but it was over $100 for a 10x10 inch square.

Wow, fantastic work so far. The spear is coming together nicely! Can't wait to see you tackle the rest of this project, I'm especially curious to see how you handle the wings.

Cal: Found a 4'x1' scrap of it at a plastic warehouse and they sold it to me for $10 when I told them what I'd be using it for.

Aeon: The answer is I'm not planning too! Some things just cannot be done well on a reasonable budget (in this case, even an outrageous budget would have issues)

I threw a coat of primer on everything, and attached the blades to the shaft I'll be using (6' vinyl coated pine closet rod haha). I also temporarily attached all the bits of the head to the piece so I could finally see what it looked like assembled.. Lots of finish work to do and a bunch of things to add tot he shaft/butt before I can get too excited.. but the hard part is behind me!
ON TO THE PICTURES!

Funny story Cap, thats how I have made a lot of my weapons in the past - most recently the sword for my templar.

You can glue the stuff together, as far as I can tell it is just normal Sintra/Komatex - its just 3/4ths of an inch thick. A bit harder to make a perfect edge without that middle layer of 1mm styrene to act as guide for the sanding.. but more then makes up for it with its sturdiness and the lack of layered lines. If you can find cheap scrapbin plastic - give it a try.

Well, after a few days off I finally got back to work.

Finished making the shaft part of the spear, and am waiting for the back blade to finish drying.. so I threw a coat of gold on everything and slapped it together real quick for a picture!

I'm in the process of shading/weathering this as I post, and later tonight I'll get to see it all come together painted! Very excited!

Well, I've been working on it on and off - took some pictures of it assembled a few days ago. Lots of work still going into the back sections and the middle handle section, and I decided to invest in a airbrush kit and give it a proper shading job.. but here it is!

For the full album of pictures and build shots check out Solarion - Diablo 3 (WiP) - Imgur

Proper pictures to come as I finish the detail work on the back and redo the middle section.

Thanks for the support guys - I'm starting on the armor this week, so there will be more progress soon!

Gonna be one hell of a project.

This is probably the only build I'm going to be able to do this year.. so I'm going all out on it. Cinematic version or bust.

After ripping the games model (as a base) and breaking down the armor into parts, I started making the breastplate today.

After what felt like way too long of a time planning and tinkering with templates, I figured out what I wanted and cut the template out. Turned out being only 4 pieces in the end.

And then the test taping! Much cleanup and work will go into this tomorrow.

Glad to finally be working on this again.

Well, turns out being a weekend warrior sucks!

Anyways, made some good progress on the base of the chest today.

This chest has a lot of layers, as seen here:

I started by sealing up the top and reinforcing the hell out of the inside/outside of the first collar using fiberglass and rondo - That first layer is going NOWHERE.
I then started tinkering with adding the 2nd layer of collars.

Then the third

Then the bottom first layer and back segment.

I will be designing the sun on the front tonight and tomorrow.. then I have to actually make it. After that its a whole hell of a lot of trim and cleaning - but I'm happy with the direction its going so far!

The screws are incredibly temporary, needed a reliable way to keep the plates in place while I templated out the next bit while still being able to remove them entirely.
