Imperius : Archangel of Valor (Diablo 3)

Amazing work! So Sintra is like abs correct? a type of plastic? I've never worked with it before but its amazing what your able to do with it!

Thanks for the kind words all!
Prev: Me too, its taking a huge amount of restraint to not start the painting process.

Balgosa: Sintra is a type of expanded pvc foam, it looks and feels like plastic but can be dented and is a bit softer then something like ABS. Think of it as the ******* child between ABS/Styrene and EVA foam... Using it is just like working with Styrene/ABS except it has a much lower melting point (easily heat shaped) and is not quite as durable or difficult to cut (I cut everything here with an Xactoknife, for example)
It has its strengths and weaknesses vs the other plastics, but overall its great for costumes that you arent planning on taking a huge beating in.

Well, I made my first silicone mold (of the shoulder) and had some not unexpected issues with my first attempt, forcing me to remake the mold entirely. I have been avoiding doing this, and so I started on the gauntlets to get my mind off that failure.

Trying to make this, for reference.

After doing some measuring and modifying of the in game model and pep file (a disgustingly simplistic single layered abomination) I settled on a template and design idea and got to cutting. The entirety of these gauntlets will be made out of 1/8th inch sintra sheets and apoxie sculpt.

Both sides look exactly like this. the under part went together pretty quickly (first day)

The top bit is going to be mostly hidden from view by the top plate of the gauntlet, so mercifully I dont need to do much cleaning anywhere but the very front. After doing some size testing and making a new template, I started on the all important top portion of the gauntlet.

Base together and test fitted (gonna need to bulk up my arms a bit it seems).

After getting the bases started, time for the heinous detailing! Still working on that, but its coming along.

More gauntleted progress. Added additional detailing to the top plate and more or less finished the bases for the rest of it.

The temptation to start painting stuff gold is becoming overwhelming.

I am going to be honest I was looking at google just at some Diablo 3 pics and yours popped up. I followed the link on the pic and stumbled on to this website where I started reading about your build and by the end of the 3rd page here I had to sign up for if nothing else seeing the end of this build your work is amazing and I do mean amazing and I can not wait to see what comes next! keep up the awesome work man!

Amazing craftmanship. the fact that it is freehand and eyeballed is icing on the cake, or armor in this case

Gorgeous gauntlets!!!! Keep up th' good work. (sniff):cool:

Thanks for the kind words everyone! You guys are awesome haha.

Took a break from the armor build today and finally sat down and finished Solarion. I added a large amount of detailing to the smooth sections of the back blade and after digging through cutscene stills brought the back blades shape closer to the cinematic version (the hole is new, essentially). Also figured out a way to make the head of the spear detachable from the shaft with minimal effort and still stay sturdy, had to redo almost all of the connecting bits to accomplish this though. Now it simply screws and unscrews from the handle and is very sturdy.

Little bit of weathering and it will be ready for my wall until Blizzcon!
