ICONS Authentic Replicas Interview clip?

I remember those days. All the players all the Rumors etc. My buddy and I were just getting into the Prop world. We owned a company Weapons Masters of The Westcoast;

We built full working Next Gen Tricorders and Cobra Head Phasers. The only competition in those days was Marco Enterprises.

Was a very Dog Eat Dog world. Especially to a couple of fresh face guys. I remember sending photos of some Predator and Robocop stuff I had made to Universal Armourer.

Tom Shore own it. Put the photos in his catalogue and offered them to people. Mind you I just sent him photos as asked.

Oh well there are many many stories about those times.

I'm surprised dear Jimmy boy lasted as long as he did before bailing.

To bad his chute and backup did'nt deploy! :lol

What a queen!

Thanks for 'making' me re-read the thread :darnkids

:lol

Can't believe its been almost 3 years :wacko, but it did make fascinating reading then, and again now.

Indeed !

I am glad dealing with all the crap etc did not turn me off to prop collecting.

Just curious if any of you guys have seen our Tricorders or Phasers. We were asked by New Eye Studio to be exclusive them at the time.

One of our Tricorders ended up being played around with on the set of Trek for some time.

Ah those were the days.

I think it is so funny how some of these guys just because they were in the prop making or worked on set thought they were so much more

than they were. I remember meeting Bear Burgess. I associated with him for a while. I even helped some of these guys with electronics. The one thing I

learned about them. If they needed your help they were your buddy. If not you never heard from them.

I probably did if Jeff had them, or saw pics of them thru Tom. :lol

Have not heard those names in a long time. How about Prop Department or Planet X? Orion Traders. Matt Colby.

I remember the guys at Proper FX.

James Latta ripped a lot of people off d/b/a ICONS. I was one of them as he took $500 from me in June 1999 for a deluxe Jupiter 2 that was NEVER delivered. He took money from a father or priest for a full size Robot as well. The Karma Bus cannot catch up to this liar and thief quickly enough.

Dear all,
As a new member first let me apologise if I have selected the wrong thread to post? Like a number of other prop collectors I was one of those who paid Icons in full for pre-orders of the Han Solo Blaster and Battlestar Galactica Cylon helmet (thank you Al Williams) I therefore found it interesting to note that in a previous post Mr Latta had stated no advance orders on Battlestar Galactica props had been taken. I still have my paid in full invoice which I will post as proof. Suffice to say I lost my money when Icons folded...Bugger!
Skip forward to 2006 & I was fortunate enough, I thought, to come across an ebay seller Steve Morton of Toyhawks who appeared to be brokering major pieces from Mr Latta's private Icons collection (this may be pure BS on Toyhawks part?). The first item I secured 9 years ago was the prototype Sonar Batcowl. It was a bitch to get Toyhawks to actually ship it and when they did it was shipped without its display case & prototype plaque & supporting documentation. In the mean time I had also paid Toyhawks for the prototype ID4 Alien Attacker and supporting documentation and the number 2 prototype Cylon helmet plus numerous other pieces such as the master build manual for the Icons M41-a hero Aliens Pulse Rifle. Despite numerous assurances from Mr Steve Morton none of these pieces were ever sent. He tends to reply to my emails roughly every 6 months to the effect of "this will happen, we are still here, your pieces are safe" but he never answers simple questions such as "why the hell do you find it so difficult to ship my purchases?". I must be some serious kind of idiot to get ripped off on two Icons Cylon helmets? I think the chances after 9 years of Mr Morton honouring his dept is pretty much zero so I'm taking this to the prop community in the hope my story stops Toyhawks obtaining monies by deception from any other trusting/seriously gullible prop collectors. Thank you Guys.

Agreed. JL told me in 2012 he will be addressing refunds for people like myself that contacted him directly as I was taken for $750 for Predator piece. I was able to make direct contact with Michael Burnett, who made them for ICONs and who by the way had a few choice worlds for JL. MB sold me one that he had left for $500. Lets see, the email with JL was 2012 and its almost 2016 and nothing. I always can dream, anyways everyone have happy holidays and maybe in 2016 JL can do the right thing.

There are good people out there but it is getting harder to find them.

I am thinking of starting up my own business again.

Tell me what would you guys like to see in props?

Those of you who know me know the quality I demand.
