How to restore this Lost in Space 2nd/3rd season laser?

I recently acquired one of my "Grail" props. What finally looks to be an accurate replica of the LIS laser pistol. I've wanted one ever since I was a kid, but no replica looks quite right. But, as you can see, the barrel is damaged. As an added bonus it turned out to be a metal replica. Obviously pot metal though. Wanted to post for advice on how to restore this thing. I started to take it apart and have to fix some minor damage from the disassembly which is mostly at the emitter end.. I have two main concerns. The barrel foremost. I thought I could cut the barrel where the bend/break is then insert some sort of coupler and JB Weld it back straight together and fix whatever seam remains. Then how to clean the rest of the gun. Do I sand it? Wash it? and then repaint it? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Is this the one that was on Ebay? If so it looked like the back door opened by removing the 2 screws , if so look inside and see if you can see the barrel,if so I would get a metal or copper tube that would fit inside the barrel, very tight if possible if there are wires going to the tip make sure to run them threw the new tube. this should help strengthen the barrel and help make it straight, once that is done you could repair the break in the barrel and repair it from the outside, just take your time. does this pistol have any marking whom made it? it is awesome looking

You might contact RAC. Richard Coyle he made the 40 Ann 1st season laser pistol that sold years ago, and he want to build the 2/3 season gun he might have info on it, or if you want to sell it let me know I think I was the one bidding against you on E bay

Thanks Clark

The one you have could very much be cast from a screen used versions (or many even screenused?) , It seems to have some of the same tiny marks that is on the Hero version that sold on Pieces of History a few years ago..

Look at the end where the backplate with the tiny screw and handle connect. It seems to have the same scratch or as yours.

Thanks guys for the replies. Yes this came from an eBay auction October 2015. There are no markings anywhere inside or outside the pistol. All the seller could tell me is that he picked it up from a garage sale in upstate NY. It appears to be an extremely close match to the hero version from the Profiles auction, but not exact. The holes on the back of the pistol that contain the colored jewels are not an exact match to the holes on mine. I don't know if this is cast from another hero? I have done some repair so far. I found a 4 inch carriage bolt that fits inside the barrel well and have straightened it and still need to fix what remains of the opening. Will post pics in a couple of days

Thatpropguy. The one selling the Chariot rifle on EBay makes a 2/3 season laser pistol maybe you could get him to sell you a clear emitter if you need one

Used some QuikSteel epoxy to fill in the spacing and after 24 hours will sand and shape and possibly repeat

Great job looks nice and straigh, glad to see you removed that weird looking emitter, what type of metal do you think it's made from? Pressed steel?

Are the line of three jewels on the back end of the screen used prop all emerald green as on some of these replicas, or red, blue and green as seen on others ?

To the best of my knowledge they are red, blue and green

Thanks. I picked one of these laser guns up over 25 years ago while I was on holiday. It looks similar to yours, made of a cheapish metal, but the trigger isn't red it's silver. There are two screws in the back that allow the plate to be removed. It was (still is), in a pretty bad state, but it's quite sturdy, and all the jewels are missing if I recall. The guy I bought it from back then said it originated from the 1960's, but at the time I took that with a pinch of salt, and still do. I remember Lost In Space from a kid, but I'm not a fan and know nothing about the props, I just thought it was a cool Sci Fi gun. It's been in the loft for decades, I saw this post and it's inspired me to get it out of storage and have a bash at restoring it.

On the mine trigger itself is actually missing but it would be silver. The red part is the trigger housing. Mine also has 2 screws to remove the back plate. I thought the jewels were missing on mine also but I scraped away the area where they sit and there they are!2018.JPG2019.JPG

Oh wow, that's brilliant :) I'm going to have to search for mine, lord only knows where it is.
