how the others see you

Most people i meet think its pretty cool! Despite walking around shopping centres, pubs, busy streets etc in my pred suit, i've only ever had one guy take the piss, and that was some drunken chav in the middle of London.

My parents love what i do, they come along to shows when they can, and mum likes to take loads of photos so she can show off my talents to all her friends  My girlfriend hates it though, with a passion!! :( Even down to the point that she will get stroppy if i ask her to help me put a suit on to test fit things or something. She thinks i spend to much time working on my suits or out with my friends i've met through this hobby. All my things have been banned from the house, so i have a nice display room/workshop set aside in the loft

My wife isn't into my hobby as much, but i haven't got the chance to suit up in full gear. Hopefully after we have the baby-hopefully a girl which i want  and we can all play dress up together.
I've been reluctant to have a kid being the Big kid myself with all the toys and Bio's I guess its time I share the joy. :(

40 going on 12 :(
I have been costuming since late 80's and i have had a ball!!
Yeah poeple think i'm nuts,..so what, they are just jealous and they take life far too seriously!

My wife is totally supportive of my "obsession" and always will be, she's good like that.
She like Predator, Aliens and sci-fi in general (Loves the transformers movie)
Whem i was a practicing Make up artist she used to help me with casting, running latex and even paint ups.
She is a fantastic painter/sculpter, better than me i think. Used to wear costumes as well before the kids (Kenny from South Park)
My kids think it's cool and love to wear my costumes around home to show there friends.
Every now and then they ask me to dress up as Indiana Jones....ha i get a big kick outta that.
One day i would like to join the local 501st and help the kids. Thoese guys and gals are legends in costuming.

It doesn't really matter what people think about you, it's what you think that counts.
This really is a great thread!

30 year old high school teacher and I started my costumer career in the Star Wars realm so I'm also a 501st member (Fett being my first SW costume). Since then I have been consumed by my two hobbies, costuming and music. Fortunately my wife is an avid costumer/star wars freak, I met her through my local 501st garrison. I actually proposed to her at an event we also had Boba and Stormtroopers at our wedding (if people said you're geeky  ) Personally, my family doesn't really care, most of my friends are costumers or would love to have some of the **** that I have. To tell you the truth, even if no one understood the fascination I wouldn't care. Between my Pred and my various SW costumes I have helped support countless charitable organizations, and helped raise who knows how much money for medical research etc. I see costuming as two fold awesomeness, 1) I get to dress like badass Iconic Figures I've always loved and 2) Most of the time I get to help out people/organizations. So if people want to sit on some kind of high horse and criticize, I just ask them what they have done lately to help out their fellow man/woman. At least I'm not spending the money on gambling or crack :(

This is just too cool, awesome wedding pic!

Oh and *high five* on your bride

You sure are! She's a great gal and it's great to have someone who shares your passions as your bride. Miss you guys :(

Childish. People call me childish, but they treat me lower than that.

I know how you feel man. But hey, to each their own I say :( The way I see it, they're worse off for not being able to appreciate how much work and passion goes into this stuff and lowering themselves to insulting and putting down those who do. As they say, people hate and fear that which they do not understand.

That's right..

To all you mother fuckers calling me a stupid little kid remember this:

I will live longer than you.

And when you are gone, EVERYONE will forget.

...loljk?

well guys an gals I'm 42, an I really don't give a rats ass what anyone thinks about the world of pred costuming!! we all get a buzz out of doin it, we share a very common interest, we love what we do, so sod all those muppets out there that do the mundane stuff like work, sleep, work, sleep work oops sorry, work, eat, sleep,so on an so forth! I may be 42 but hey what the fug i'll do this stuff until I can't walk, hey then I'll be a zimmerpred !! the point is guys we all love what we do, we don't go out mugging old ladies for their social security or doin any sort of harm to others ( maybe scare a few kiddies on halloween, but hey we were kids once) so what harm are we really doin?? none, just a minority of folk out there who aint got nothin better to do than point an say ooooh aint he or she weird! well we can take our masks off after the show, can they?? :) and if my wife found out how much I'd spent well lets just say I'd be singin seprano!!! and me and the lil lady are planning our wedding this year in scotland(date to be set) and we are discussin a full pred do for anyone interested??!!! and I really can't wait to see the priests face on this one

Im 34 and i used to troop yrs ago until i got really sick and it took me out of the scene for 15 years. Now i collect and im still just as happy, and i dont really care what people thought or think of me tbh. If everyone was the same it would be a boring world, not only that alot of people who troop wether its a film or Historical battle reenactment etc do it for charity, which is cool enough as it is. But its being part of a group of people who love doing it together is the best part, well it was for me. Some people like sports and they spend HUGE amounts on tickets, equipment or lessons. Others gamble or drink alot. Well you get the idea, everyone has a hobby or desire. Ive travelled alot and i mean yrs of travelling, and trust me we are normal, ok ok maybe some of us are but hey whats normal anyway. Enjoy what you do and screw anyone who says different cos they have no imagination, and i dunno about you lot but if i didnt have my imagination life would be sooo boring.

Hey Guys, I'm 25 and my interest in Predator really started from learning to draw him...so the most critical suggestions I've ever had was mainly from family members trying to put my talent into drawing something a little bit more main stream (like ocean front views, mountains, etc)

My collection so far is only a mysteria bio helmet; but my GF, friends, family fully accept my addiction to the character. I also have nearly every Predator comic book by Darkhorse. So that is currently my extent of my collection.

However, within the next two weeks...I find out if I get into Nursing School (a really competitive program, mainly due to lack of instructors).

So being responsible, I'm trying to save $$$ to finish school first, and hopefully if "real life" doesn't pay me a visit, I definitely see myself picking up some sculpting tools and eventually a full predator suit when those Nursing / Travel Nursing pay checks roll in.

cheers

UPDATE: for any of you guys that have seen Highlander, our wedding is going to take place at Eilean Donan Castle, this is the castle they used for the flashback scenes. We had originally booked for Sept last year but had to postpone due to tragic circumstances, the date is yet to be set, but once we have decided anyone wishing to come along in pred costumes will be more than welcome! the more the merrier and it will be a day to remember. I will be posting a seperate thread on this for anyone seriously interested. Apologies for drifting off the current thread!

does anyone really care how others see you...

i'm happy going about my business i don't tell anyone what to collect or judge them for their passions....

besides as i stated earlier...

it's the badesst costume on the planet

When I first started looking at getting a costume my wife looked at me like I was crazy. Then we went to DragonCon and she saw the faces of everyone that took a pic with me there and she told me it looked like it was worth the money to make peoples day to see thier favorite movie monster standing there. I told her it was and she had to get her own costume. Now she it and will be wearing it this year at DC.

I get funny looks all the time about it. Especially here in good ole Louisiana. We are in one of the smallest fire and brimstone communities so I am just strange by thier account. Its has been this way my entire life tho. I started playing DnD when I was in 9th grade and I was Satanic according to everyone but a few close friends that had known me since gradeschool. I married the girl down the street since she had known me since we were children and she knew who I really was.

the funniest part about all of it is that all the people that back in the day called me weird or whatever they called me back in school days now bring their kid to me to teach how to be a better person. When tey walk into my studio they are like o_O .... Eric is that you. Yep! LMAO love the irony.

All the people ive ever told have either said "***** ****** " and marvelled in epicness or have gone off on one total utter spaz attack!! in my own oppininion its worth having the odd person think your crazy (people think that of me anyway) to be doing and to be involved in something like this, but then again, who cares what other people think
