How many times have you bought the same movie....

surprisingly, i prefer watching movies that are on tv then on dvd.......not a big fan of dvds, but I try to purchase the bluray and dvd combo pack until i got a bluray.....it really paid off in the end so i didnt have to repurchase the same film.....
wow...you are a rare breed, my metal faced friend...i cannot watch any movie on TV...even shows i love i have to watch it on disc..

(I just had to have both... because one was in a pretty gold box and the other a pretty silver one :rolleyes)

I laughed out loud. Seriously.

You all bought Laserdisks, but no one bought HDDVDs? Amateurs.

One of my Blade Runners was HDDVD, but I only had about a half dozen discs before the format was killed.

I remember the rca videodiscs. I think they were called CED's. I had a friend who owned one, and I recorded a few of his movies onto VHS. They had a nasty tendency to skip. Soon thereafter I got a job at a video rental store that specialized in those discs. Needless to say, they switched to VHS fairly quickly.

Bladerunner, Transformers (1986) the movie (and the series), Gi Joe the movie (cartoon), Star Wars original trilogy just to name a few off the top of my head.

We had a CED player when I was a kid. I hated turning the darn discs over when side 1 was finished playing.

I double-dipped on a number of movies. There's a bunch that I upgraded from VHS - and I think I'm gonna go thru these old VHSs and get rid of a bunch before I make the move to Calgary in a few weeks.

Some of the ones I double-dipped on:
Bladerunner - director's cut to 4-disc set
Avatar - theatrical blu/DVD combo release to extended DVD
Batman Begins and Dark Knight - DVD to Blu-Ray, but still planning to keep the DVDs
National Treasure 1 and 2 - DVD to Blu, but still keeping the DVDs
And there's a number of Dinsey animated classics and Pixars that I've double dipped on (DVD to Blu).

There's a bunch of comedy DVDs in my collection that I haven't watched in ages that I might sift thru and get rid of.

I just forgot. Still have my Logan's Run VideoDisc.

The pretend laserdiscs. It was really an metal record. For lack of a better description.

:lol I was gonna say, I'd be surprised if there was a format that slipped by you!

Yeah, the old analog video disc. We had a lot of problems with some discs that were just prone to skipping. But I remember the night my dad brought it home and we were able to watch Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark at home whenever we wanted. That was awesome.

It was kind of cool the way you had to load the disc in, remove the sleeve and then play it.

I think my dad threw them away at some point long after the player stopped working. I probably would have held onto Star Wars and a couple of other titles if he hadn't gotten rid of them, just for the nostalgia aspect. I mean, I've still got two versions of Star Wars on laserdisc and I haven't played those in probably 10 years at least. It'd be a miracle if my LD player still works. The VCR died years ago and I have yet to replace it...

I just bought a new format of Casablanca for the fifth time in my life.

Jaws made its fourth incarnation a while back.

I am SUCH a sucker. :)

Since replying to this thread way back then, I've bought "Aliens" on bluray... making it seven times now for the same film. :lol :rolleyes

Back to the future-
Laser disc
Beta
VHS (box set)
VHS (singles)
DVD (box set release)
DVD (singles)
Blu-ray (box set)

This applies to all three films
I have prob 30-40 copies of part 1 on VHS, and less copies of 2 and 3 on VHS.

I have BTTF in all mediums.
Vinyl, cassette, books/novels, etc.

But no new Wrath of Kahn, right?

The original? I already have it on bluray in a single disc and the six film boxset.

If you mean Into Darkness (;)) I'll buy it on bluray when it's released in September. :)

However if "another" version of Wrath of Khan becomes available (such as a two disc bluray with more deleted/alternate scenes, BTS stuff)... Yeah I'll buy it again. :lol

Actually part of me wants to buy it on Beta or on laserdisc, just to "have" it. :) :lol

No you're not.

You have excellent taste for CLASSIC movies

Video, Dvd, blu for both of those classics I have in my collection

I think the only time i've ever enjoyed watching a movie on TV was when they aired the big lebowski...because of the hilarious lines in big lebowski...
"This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!" :lol I wondered about that specific line for a long time. Then I read an article that stated the Coen Brothers are of the opinion that words or lines that are re-dubbed for television are obvious no matter what they replace the original line with, so they simply decided to go with whatever made them laugh.

Back to the main topic, I'm another nitwit that has purchased the Star Wars Original Trilogy movies a number of times--VHS, a DVD box set with the Not-So-Special-Edition versions (I bought that one for the bonus DVD), bootleg copies of the theatrical versions, and the combo SE/Low Budget Theatrical transfers.

Second would be Jaws, because each new DVD release contained a documentary I didn't have...and then the Blu-Ray, of course. And that's the only reason I've ever "upgraded" any of mine--because of whatever new documentary, making of, or other featurette they contained; if there are no extras on the Blu-Ray release that aren't on a DVD I already have, I don't need to buy it.

Oh no, some Blu-rays You HAVE to have.

I got Lawrence of Arabia when it came out last year and Man the Picture and colors just friggin POP!!!

Way better than the dvd

Same with Hestons The Ten Commandments
