Hot Topic Freddy Sweater...

OK, I took the plunge: this is about 5 minutes of work with a steak knife...

Remember, kids, cut away from yourself when using sharp implements!

When I get to the collar, I'm going to try and use actual flame and see what that gets me. In some of the real Freddy photos, the collar is almost gone.
Looks good.

Thanks!

I'm going to cut into it some more tonight. I almost played hooky from work today so I could work on it.

Just picked one up for my lady last nice since she wants to do a female version. Freda Krueger. I think she wants to do a shredded and burnt black dress instead of pants. The shirt is nice and for $26.99 can't be beat

and take it off first............

Sound advice!

I did some more shredding last night but need to fine tune it this weekend. I'm going to skip the actual scorching, I think. I don't want to leave black marks on my silicone mask. But I'll simulate it on the rest of the sweater with dye.

By the way, I was going to buy another sweater and leave it pristine for Christmas, but Hot Topic is now out of XLs (on their website). They didn't really plan ahead this year, methinks.

My local Hot Topic had SO many in stock, not only was the rack full, but there was a huge pile of them stacked on the back counter!
I may get another one - for the price, why not?
I really like the pics you posted of your weathered shirt - I will have to try that technique on mine!

Whether you actually scorch or not, I look forward to seeing the end result! Hell, I may get one for myself, just for ****s and giggles!

Thanks, Geektress. They really are pretty nice sweaters...

Here's some more progress. I'm done with the cuffs, but I want the collar to look close to this:

Here's what I have so far; I need to remove some more material. Right now, it's too floppy overall.

Lastly, here's the tail. I think I'm done with this part but might remove some dangly bits here or there. It's still a bit too uniform for my taste.

I had a blast ripping into it with my steak knife. Do I need therapy?

Well I started tattering up my sweater though it's not as far along as I want it to be:

Look at that dork! XD ...oh wait...It's ME! :wacko

Dude, that mask looks nothing like Freddy...

For tattering, nothing beats a serrated steak knife.

Yeah I'm thinking of trading it in for a CFX mask XD

Oh it's not the method but how much. I've been pretty reserved with tattering so far XD

Here's my attempt with the Hot Topic sweater. Rushed it a bit but I think it turned out OK.

Looks great! How'd you do the scorch marks?

I tried spraying watered down RIT on mine last night and it looked great. The problem is, after it "dried" the dye quite easily rubbed off in my hands. I'm soaking it clean right now and need to try something else. Tomorrow, I'm going to stop by Dick Blick and see if they carry any fabric dye that will stick to acrylic. Otherwise, I'll just use spray paint.

Thanks! I just used simple black spray paint and the effect was quite good. Looks a cross between dirty and scorched, which is what I was going for.

The only thing I'm yet to find out is what the paint will look like after the sweater has been washed. So I'm not going to wash it till after I've worn it on Halloween!

It's been raining in L.A. this week so my sweater is still damp tonight, but I did pick up some acrylic spray paint. I just hope I don't get it all over my apartment this weekend!

I'll post photos upon completion (of the sweater, not my apartment).

It is finished!

It looks better in person; the scorch marks don't look quite as haphazard. I'm pretty pleased with it. I should've gone spray paint in the first place...
