Hot Topic Freddy Sweater...

Just a heads up for any Freddy fans looking for a great alternative to the horribly innacurate and poorly made licensed sweaters, my fellow horror buddies over at michael-myers.net have recommended this new sweater design currently being sold exclusively through Hot Topic.
The overall innacuracies are trumped by the quality, price and the correct red colar. Most other Freddy sweaters had green at the colar.
I have not had the opportunity to stop by my local HT and pick one up, but I am told it is designed as a genuine apparel top, and though not as thick as the actual movie sweaters, is not as thin and cheap as the licensed sweaters.
For the price, I don't think it can be beat. The next step up from these are the $200+ replicas I have seen offered...

I'm shocked they haven't been sued yet... I better pick one up before they are. They could at least make thier description a little less obvious.

I'm not sure they can be sued unless the design is an exact copy of the actual sweaters (which it is not), and of course the item description - though an obvious tip of the hat to Freddy, does not advertise itself as a Freddy item.
Hot Topic has made efforts in the past to offer some decent movie wardrobe pieces - they sold the Red Balls Wonka coat which was very nice, I used to own one.
Back when the Dark Knight came out they also made an attempt at offering some Joker pieces that were some big steps up from the licensed costumes (but of course, us RPFers know that close is never good enough!)
Gotta stop in this coming week and get one....

There's a thread for that! LOL!

Yeah, but so far no bites on the cutting end of things. I do appreciate the scorching tips, however. Right now, I'm gathering Freddy photos for reference material. There are surprisingly few high-res photos I'm finding.

I just picked one up and have been slowly working on it. They don't fray easily though XD They knit is VERY high quality and doesn't just fall apart like a lot of the cheap licensed sweaters. As for the copyright, well, I learned that out of the context of the glove, burned face and hat the stripe pattern alone can't be copyrighted. I could be wrong but considering the officially licensed versions were completely inaccurate to the screen used sweaters you would think if it WAS copyrighted it would force the manufacturers to use the correct colors and such to cover themselves by the license.

Anyway here's a shot of my gear for this Halloween so far:

The hat is a Fredora hat and the sweater is the Hot Topic piece. The pants i used YEARS ago and just took a knife to the cuffs at the bottom. the glove is an Auzorann Part 1 and really is a very nice piece!

I just picked up the HT sweater today - could not be happier with the fit and feel of it!
For the price, you really can't go wrong. It is the most movie-accurate Freddy sweater ever offered commercially.
It may be thinner than usual, but I would suggest layering another garment undernieth if that's an issue for you.
I was thinking of using my Dremmel tool to weather the sleeves/color but that may be overkill. I will have to check out that thread on weathering - there is also one over at michael-myers.net

Nice glad you like it. Now go back and pick me one up!
I keeed, I keeed. We have Hot Topic online in the U.K. now but all they sell is the bog standard and god awful emo crap.

Hot Topic is owned my The Gap. All the stuff they sell is on the level, their lawyers make sure or that.

lol i love this rumor. i worked for hot topic for about 5 years and this is in no way true.

as for the legal aspect of the item its called Plausible deniability the buyers dont call it a freddy sweater when speeking to marketing but it always just so happens to come out around halloween time lol

Straker, I like what you did there. I'm going to try using a steak knife on mine for some shredding and holes. Hope to start on it tonight.

The sweaters are a bit thin, but here in L.A., it can be 100 degrees on Halloween day so the thinness is fine with me. I'll just wear a black T-shirt underneath.

Hey, I'll probably have to order online since I'm an hour from HT. Are the sizes fairly true? I'd love to have this just to wear around.

Thanks! I used scissors on the sweater though I my try a serrated knife since it has a hard time fraying anyway XD I'll try to post some pics of it actually ON me to show everyone how it looks. ^_^

As stated before they had some fairly nice wonka stuff a few years ago hat coat glasses ect. they had gotten better over the years I was there.

OK, I took the plunge: this is about 5 minutes of work with a steak knife...

Remember, kids, cut away from yourself when using sharp implements!

When I get to the collar, I'm going to try and use actual flame and see what that gets me. In some of the real Freddy photos, the collar is almost gone.
