Help with a The Amazing Spider Man 2 5 piece suit (ASAP)

Hey, so I have this 2 piece TASM 2 suit (Mask, Suit) and wanted to know if there was a way to remove the u-zip and replace it with invisible zippers in these spots marked with green: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399319243.042636.jpg
That way the suit would be boots, pants, torso, mask. Would a seamstress be able to do this? And if so, how much do you think it would cost? Thanks! :)

Short answer: No, that is not possible.

Long answer: in order to install zippers , a pattern needs to have a seam allowance in those areas. If your suit has already been assembled, you cannot add zippers where the pattern hasn't allowed for them. No seamstress could do this for you, because they cannot magic extra fabric into those spots.

What if the pattern have red and blue part separate , do it still can add zipper at the belt?

I am going to disagree with this. It is definitely possible to add zippers after the fact, I have watched it done and it not all that uncommon of a requested modification to outdoor clothing (generally in the form of pit zippers or pants side zips). Now whether it can be done with invisible zippers that is something I don't know, I have only seen it done using big beefy zippers meant for outdoor use.

Additionally by going all the way around the suit you make that part of the stretch much differently which may or may not complicate how it fits.

As to cost, it depends on the seamstress. The seamstress I know who has added pit zips and stuff has a shop rate of $60/hour and you are looking at a decent bit of work (no idea how much), so not cheap. If you can find a seamstress in your area who does custom work you may be able to get it done for less, it depends on the seamstress.

Sorry, but then why are you commenting? An invisible zipper folds a layer of fabric over the area where the zipper teeth close and the zipper tape is sewn to an allowance that extends past the line underneath, it's attached to a fabric layer beneath the outer surface. It can't be added like an outerwear zipper that's sewn directly to the top surface.

You need a seam allowance to add an invisible zip, you can't just cut a piece apart and re-attach it without messing up the lines of the pattern.

As to @dungparker's question, yes, if the pattern has the red and blue portions separated, you can add zippers where they join together, that's how the film suit was made, with regards to the waist zipper. But you still woudn't want calf zippers going around horizontally, you can cut off circulation and risk permanently damaging your limbs.

I'm agreeing with Luna on this, its not possible unless you do the suit from the scratch not with a suit already set up and installed with invis zippers.
If you want to follow this path, try to sell your current suit and work on a suit like this.
Good luck buddy.

I think the only way to achieve this is have a suit printed out a bit larger than your initial size and cut the suit in half. That's what I thought about doing for my ASM2 suit, but have been researching and thinking the pros and cons out, so i stick with the u zipper. Although I have seen someone cut the ASM2 zentai zone suit (not zentai zentai) and use a normal zipper But even then I'm not entirely sure it'd work. But having the extra sizes to your print you can cut it and have seam allowance, but it could be constricting and won't be able to have a full stretch when posing.

since you already have a suit and want to cut it in half and at the boots, you could be condemned to having a suit that has no stretch for you to get to the floor and pose and have the risk of popping the stitching from over stretching the seams.

here are the photos from his Instagram. He posted updates everyday about what he did with the suit.

In this photo he has a zipper running down the red belt and one running down his tucas. I asked about the restrictions within his suit and he says it's fine. Although, he has a removable mask, I think if done with a one piece it wouldn't work. But he is able to pose and contort his body without restrictions. He cut the zipper out from the shoulders on the back and did cut it from the waist. Though he doesn't use invisible zippers.

Thank you for this. I will look into this as I like the look

Do you think this may work even with the slight dip in the middle of the front red part of the belt?

On my suit (which uses the same zipper system), it does not work. The belt stays flat. I find myself pulling it down every five minutes or so because it doesn't look too good. Maybe because the zipper's not long enough, but I doubt it.
