The RPF - truly this place is better than Google - has come through with flying colors for help with the costumes.

As for how I know her, we met 7 years ago. She was a client, who'd hired me to produce a 3d animation for her production company. Our first meeting lasted 6 hours, and we talked about everything in the universe EXCEPT the job. Almost immediately, we started dating, and...just... never stopped :) We've lived together for a few years now. She's amazing.

P.S. I never charged her for the work :)

That's really cool. I was wondering the same thing with the way you were referring to her. Tell her the RPF loves her !

:confused Didn't expect that response!

:thumbsup :thumbsup You get two thumbs up!

If for any reason you need any help in the UK (doubt it though as you lot have much better costume contacts than us!)... Just ask.

Side bar Mike,

I've met and become friends with quite few celebs and without fail the topic of character names come up.

I remember talking with Robin Williams years ago on Maui and someone came up and said "Mork! Nanu Nanu".....

Robin smiled and was gracious, but when the guy was gone, Robin said he hates that name and wish people would forget it.

I got to know Jay Anthony Franke while I lived in Vegas. He was Jake Sommers on the "Saved by the Bell" style show called "California Dreams". He welcomed people recognizing and calling him "Jake".

Does Danica mind people calling her Winnie?

Wow, just livin' the dream. Some guys have all the luck. lol.

All I ask is that we get to see some pics of her in costume when it's done.

God bless you sir. lol

No. She's proud and grateful to have played that part, and she doesn't try and pretend it didn't happen. She understands where people are coming from with that, and she learned to embrace it. Plus, she's really moved on in plenty of ways that she has no reason to have a chip on her shoulder... it's not always easy, because we can't do anything or go anywhere without some sort of recognition or interruption, but that's a small price to pay. She rolls with it with a smile, and only very rarely finds it a hassle - like when she's just rolled out of bed and needs to run an errand or something, and isn't all "camera-ready." 'Cause you just KNOW that's the pic that ends up in some magazine. But it was a great character, so it's all good...

_Mike

On the flip side of the coin, I cannot imagine what life as a celebrity must be like. You always have to be on and people are watching because of the magazine danger, as you mentioned.

I will tell you - I am grateful to roll out of bed at 5:30am, throw on some shorts and a cap and literally roll into my local Starbucks - half awake and not caring what I look like .

Yeah, me too. Guess who gets to do the early morning errands :)

Well, I don't want to derail the discussion any further.

My .02 cents about the metal parts is that I think this can work but the biggest issue that I have seen consistently is that the mid band on every person who's done this costume is way to wide around the waist. If you look at the comic, Wonderwomen's metal portion around the waist follows the curve around the waist and accents the hip. Something I noticed in all the photo's, the width of this curve around the hips is almost twice the size it should be, literally hiding the hips, instead of accenting them. In some of outfits I have seen at cons, it is this sole inattention to this small detail that makes a person look like a cylinder rather than a women with hips.

This is my outlook and am a believer that with the correct shaping this can absolutely work in metal.

Anyhow, off to bed so I could get up in four hours and hit my Irvine Starbucks incognito !

There are two reasons I'd stay away from metal - sharp edges and compund curves. The edges can be dealt with if you're careful. To get the correct, smooth curves, you'd probably need an english wheel.

I'd rather work in sintra or ABS. You can get an approximately sized mannequin and heat form (or vac-form, if you access to a large enough table) the sintra to the form. Plus, the mannequin may come in handy for future costumes - or to display costumes afterwards.

Make a paper mock-up of the armor, then trace the shapes to the sintra/ABS. Cut it out and form it on the mannequin.

I can concur with that. I once had some metal chest plates made for a short film. However when we test fitted, it became obvious that if any of the actors fell over there was a slight chance of them decapitating themselves. Unfortunately my insurance wouldn't cover this so we went for plastic instead.:rolleyes

Great points GM. When I did Kelldars costume, it was my first time working with metal and she specifically wanted the Alex Ross version. There are several artists who sketch WW and they each interpret things differently with her armor, some go more flattering, some go more armor-ish. The thing with them all is that some of the bends and shapes they give to the human figure combined with the armor are near impossible in real life and or misproportioned human figure to begin with, then you have to translate to the model that is wearing them. Its all kinds of fun! LOL

I do agree with the hips part GM mentions though. If you are going to find someone to do this costume for her, pay attention to the hips area, its the hardest part on the costume that I struggled/struggle with.

As for plastic, I would go with Styrene or ABS, Sintra is porous and can ruin the whole look.

Hello MIke, I thought I'd add my 2 cents. You might keep Prop Masters in mind if you come up with a sculpt for the hard parts. Prop Masters is located on Empire Ave. in Burbank. They've been in the movie and TV costume business for decades. They deal mainly in vacuforming. They have a technique for chroming vacuformed styrene that makes very convincing armor. Not particularly cheap though. Thanks, Jeff

:lol I can really imagine your POV, while Robin being greeted, he smiles convulsive, said something and then in his typical Robin Williams style looking disgusted and spit out "Oh Gawd! I wish people would forget that freaking name, I hate it..." and sips on his drink...

I'm a big Robin Williams fan, though I'd never completely saw "Mork from Ork".

She makes a Great Princess Leia!

I saw Photos of her as Leia before and forgot about it until I saw this Photo, she'd make a great Wonder Woman also!

Man...wish I'd had a proper suit on and not that ArmorFX rig.

_Mike

I'm willing to bet 99.9% of the people out there wouldn't know the difference between a screen used suit and a guy wrapped up in white duct tape

...aaand I'm pretty sure most people didn't even notice you standing there, anyway ;) :lol:lol:lol.

Typical. An entire board dedicated to nitpicking this stuff apart, and it all goes out the window when a woman shows up.
