Help Winnie Cooper become Wonder Woman!

Your instincts are correct; she certainly has no shortage of opportunities. But there's also this: if she has two roles: 1) Actress and 2) Advocate and role model for young girls and math education, it's an easy call for her as to which one has greater contributory value and reward. :)

_Mike

Mike, please pass along my support (and thanks) for her efforts with the math education! I bought the book for my daughter and enjoyed it quite a bit myself, relearning a whole bunch of math that I'd forgotten. Now that my kiddo is in middle school, *I* have to relearn it for when she asks me the tough questions about stuff that takes me back to MY 'Wonder Years'.

I realize this isn't at all helpful, but while I can't help on the costume, I can offer to be an in-character (Han Solo) escort if she wants to wear her Princess Leia outfit again. :)

By the way, after much consideration of several factors, this is the version of the costume we're going with:

We just felt it did everything "right," was slightly more practical in some respects, and, well, she just liked it best.

I love how the lasso glows in this picture. Maybe you could use some el wire for the lasso to get that nice glow?

I just saw this thread. Perfect choice, as this is always been my personal fav WW. It's also pretty darn cool that we have another celeb connection here. Thanks for sharing Mike.

Yeah, I've been looking at that lasso, too. I'd like it to have the "flavor" of this concept, even if not literally glowing, 'cause MAN, could that get cheesy fast. The idea behind the execution here is to try and capture as much "legit," as possible - if not truly practical, then at least to look functional. It's part of why we liked the seams on the bodice - it's as if to say: This is going to get a lot of wear and stress and it needs panels and reinforced seams. It just has a more believable ring to it in some respects, we feel.

The lasso material is tricky - you almost want it to look like it has the tensile strength of steel cabling, but with the flexibility of less dense material.

Hmm, I like more the double "WW" chest amour plate like this drawn by Alex Chung:

And for practical reason (not poking on the belly) the belt like Joe Lisner envisioned, but all the way through in gold, not interrupted with bands:

The Alex Chung is nearly identical, minus the eagle head. I notice he has the seams on the bodice, too. Anyway, both nice designs. That eagle head is truly a necessary icon to complete the "American," vibe the rest of the costume is going for, imo.

Not sure how practical it would be, but what about some thin steel cabling with a brass electroplate?

Then again, getting the lasso knot would be kind of tricky without the hardware or having someone braid it back upon itself.

try those transparent USB/Audio cables you can buy. A 6 ft length looped up would look pretty cool, esp if you could hide an LED or two inside the clip which holds it to the costume ....might make it 'glow'

You could use something like this from the upholstery and curtain section of a fabric store. If you want it to be a bit stiffer, run a thin copper wire from the jewelry section into it.

Some interesting ideas on the lasso there... not sure if we've really seen the material that could sell as "metal," somehow, though. Isn't the lasso "supposed" to be gold?

_Mike

The Lasso (of Truth) was created from the Golden Girdle of Gaea - So I think it is just Golden colored - not suppose to be actual gold (although some Girdles can be a little "stiff":rolleyes)

It was made from a... girdle? Did. Not. Know. That. Well... um.

I may continue to pursue the whole metallic thing anyway :)

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that "girdle" in this case means a belt or piece of armor and not what we think of today as a girdle... :lol

True enough, DM - although your photo disturbs me.
The Girdle in this case is described many different ways depending on the myth you read (and depending on which one the DC guys took the WW history from) but in all cases it is a belt shaped object, however it is ripped off, and even torn apart in a couple of the stories so I have never felt it was made of metal. Still. I always thought the lasso would be a magic thing made of metal woven as if it were rope. -
So I suppose more like Gold cable:love

Looks like people contrubute allot on this project. Very good to se so many people comming together. I am sure this will be a great costume....

Hope we will be honored by seeing the costume one day :)
