Well... here's some of what I've got so far. True to every piece I've done up until now, at some point I've reprimed it and started over. I had originally painted it the way it looks now, but didn't call it quits when I should've, and ended up not liking it, SO, started over and left it where I was happy with it. I've got pics of what it looks like when the mottling is all done, right before and after the final mottle/mist of color.

I'm also working on a commission for a fellow lair member, and haven't had time to take pics of that piece yet (we're "launching" a new system at work and I've had to personally train pretty much my entire department to prepare for it), but I'll have them up later tonight. Hopefully, lol.

Oh! And on a side note, I've had my first go with Alclad Chrome... and dear god, is it amazing! It's like a friggin mirror! I included one pic of the blade I painted with the Chrome because quite frankly I'm too excited about it not to, lol.

Gonna be watching this 1 closely and beautiful mottling. I really gotta try it sometime....
That painted chrome is killer on the blade.

2 things

One, that kit is MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

Two, that chrome looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

that is all.

(P.S. Are you going to chrome the Hybrid's teeth? I ask because their (the Xenos) teeth always look chrome.)

Hey Justin

I,m a huge fan of your work and its cool to see another piece getting the full artistic treatment by you! the Alclad turned out amazing and i like the direction you are going with the Predalien and the Predator. Looking at the tiny holes you have drilled for the quills makes me think i drilled mine much to large on The Encounter. Thanks for posting the photos and i can't wait to see this bad boy finished.

OH MY!!! That is wicked cool. That blade is the ***** bro.

Was this chrome paint brushed, sprayed, or dipped? It is sick. I agree too, the teeth of the Hybrid should be chromed out.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I'll try and answer everything as best as I can...

Bensin, Rich, and Rey, yeah, the chrome I used is Alclad Chrome, which is a premixed, airbrush ready paint (just like the rest of the Alclad line of paints) developed for model airplane builders, but good goddamn, if it doesn't work wonders for a piece like this! lol, In one of the pics, I put the inner "tongue" inside the mouth, and you can see the teeth on the tongue are already painted a nice, shiny, silvery chrome. The rest of the teeth, which were a BITCH to repair and get looking good (the two largest fangs were completely resculpted), will be done the same way. I also wanted to do the claws the same way, but I didn't want to sculpt nails onto the fingertips...

Rik, I basecoated the kit in light grey primer, and used Freestyle Sandstone as a baseboat for the chest, neck, shoulders, and "back plates," then mottled VERY tightly with Golden Transparent Raw Umber Hue, then mottled very tightly again with Freestyle Off White, followed by a loose and sparse mottling of Freestyle Transparent Amber Oxide for the random yellowish coloration. I followed all the mottling work up with a light mottle/misting of VERY thinned down Off White to "sink" everything under the skin. You can see the difference from before and after the final misting in the pics. Thanks for asking!

John, to drill the holes I went out to a local Wal-Mart and picked up the 6-piece Dremel drill set? The actual licensed Dremel Tool drill bit set. I can't remember what the smallest bit was measured at, maybe 1/32"? I don't know what that would be in the metric system! lol, Sorry, friend! I did some tests on some spare resin I had lying around, and the quills are still pretty big in the holes... I'll have to fill in the gaps with modeling paste or something... SIGH! The work never ends...

I'll keep you guys posted, and have WiP pics up of my first commissioned piece tomorrow!

Any other comments, and especially critiques or criticisms, throw at me, boys.

GREAT job on the teeth, I also see what you're talking about, chrome on the 'tongue', looks really good. Can't wait to see this finished, especially with those chrome accents, definitely keep us posted! Looks like you're going to blow this one out of the water!

Man... you have this damned thing done yet???

I keed... I keed. Any progress on this beast? I want to see... it... complete... by... the time you... finish.............it.

No new progress yet, pal, I've been trying to plug away at a commission I'm doing for a fellow lair member. Unfortunately, some real life ********'s been keeping me from working as much as I'd like to be (burglary in my home, and I was taken into custody because I was home at the time it happened but unaware it had occured) as well as a hectic work schedule.

I also am a little unsure of how I like the finish so far after I tried doing a spot wash the way some other guys do. I really just need to stick with how I usually operate, and that's been a tough lesson to learn.

Hopefully updates soon!

Quick update for anyone foolish enough to still be following this. Still lots and lots of work to do! Probly won't be any updates for a while as I'm going to be grinding through a commission now that I've got everything squared away again!

Freaking super star talent man, this thing is going to be nuts when finished.

Who's that familiar character I see in the background there? (y)

Quick 'lil update since I've had a few chances to work on this between commissions lately. Pretty happy with the Hybrid itself, and I think the body is basically done, minus attaching the arms/puttying blending everything, and the chromed spine needs a wash, but besides that, it's good to go. As for the dark reddish color on the pred, I'm not sure I'm crazy about it... I'm thinking of redoing the outline near the edges with a Raw Sienna color, so... I guess we'll see how it turns out! Thanks for checking it out, guys, and lemme know what you think!

The body of the hybrid is perfect. I like the mottling of the skin.
I think this is going to be a beauty.
