Hellboy Prop: Broom's Box. Need info.

Given that the inside of the drawers has never been exposed to the "weather," but just the contents of each drawer, I think much lighter weathering might be appropriate. In person, the contrast is not nearly as glaring as it seems in the photo, but more "dust" and more stains, as if liquid contents long ago might have spilled, is not a bad idea. Check back for the next photo and thanks for the suggestion.

I sent them the photo and they asked if they could. Of course, I said "Hell, yes!"

Thanks, Rob. Captain, I bought that little set at the Strand bookstore in NYC, where they have so many old books they are reasonably inexpensive. I bought my previous set on eBay, but the total thickness was too narrow for the space in the box. Even now, I had to cheat and add an extra book to the six in the film! Remember, the hunt is half the fun!

Awesome, thanks for the tip! Do we know the dimensions of the books?

Also, any idea where I can find the lettering stencil for the outside?

Thanks so much!!! I'll have something awesome to show off soon :)

No precise dimensions. I just went by the size of the compartment in the box. I did the symbols free hand as per earlier in this thread, but MurdocXXL just a few posts back showed off some proper custom heat stamp tools he had made and we are all awaiting something impressive from him!

Cool, looking forward to seeing what he has up his sleeve!

As for the lettering, I meant on the outside top edge of the box, the lettering stenciled in: "in absentia luci..."

Thanks so much for your help!! Your box has turned out incredible :)

Pm me your email address and I can send you the pdf I used. It is not in exactly the right font but it is pretty darn close!

As ahoudini said, nothing specific here from the originals (up to now). I will go to make mine to fit my box. So at the end, it depends
on the built of your box.

Anyhow, I am waiting some detailed infos from Adam about the originals, to get proportions and other details correct.

Very cool! Looking forward to hearing any new info you might be able to scrounge up!

Here's something I have not shown before. I was able to acquire these screen-used pieces a while back:

And it looks like this skull may be the same as seen here:

While mine is not this exact prop (note the rope and beads), I do believe they came from the same mold, since my skull is resin and not a real skull.

Great skull and Card CaptainEO :) Congrats.... Any Chance to share your source of the skull (as you mentioned it is a casted one, maybe there are more :\ )?

By the way, got the first 3 books sewn and a leather (goat) colored. Will start a seperate thead about the books very soon ;)

Wish i would be a little bit further with those books, but I've waited to receive some details from Adam about the books.
Unfortunately - up to now - i did not heard back from him, guess he is busy at the moment, and so I went ahead doing
them completely from scratch. Most probably the paper, placement of the stitching, flysheet colors etc. will be not
screen-accurate, but at least I get an idea on the general built :)

More details (also to discuss) on my upcoming thread ;)

It is a screen used piece originally purchased during the same run of eBay auctions as the Brooms Box. I had finally just made the connection that it is the same type of skull as shown in the box, just used in a difference scene.

And the book looks amazing btw!!!

I came across this thread several years ago, and I told myself that one day I was going to make this box...and today is that day.

The only problem is that it seems most of the reference pictures, dimensions, and various other links seem to have gone missing (no longer hosted?) Can anyone still active on this thread help me out? Most importantly I am looking for the dimensions that Mr. Savage posted for his ebay won box.

I am a woodworker by trade, and I want to do the box justice by hand cutting dovetails and hand planing all of the white oak stock. This is my first real prop (other than some lightsabers etc. when I was just a kid)...so excuse my ignorance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS. Ahoudini and MurdocXXL, what you two have done so far looks incredible! I hope to be as far along as both of you one day, but something tells me this is a slow and dedicated road. :(
