Hellboy Prop: Broom's Box. Need info.

I seriously LOVE this thread. Its this sort of dedication and hardwork that got me started making.

Thanks for the inspiration guys!

Thanks, Tank! It has been a lot of fun building it, and how cool that the owner of one of the originals is feeding us the real info!

Yepp. thats very kind of Adam :D :thumbsup :thumbsup

..by the way, do we know how the top-plate or bottom-plate is attached to the case itself? Is it totaly embedded into the square of the box? ahoudini: I think your top lid is resting on the side-panels, correct? Is this the way the original is built?
For me this is not clear, according to the pics we all have (here in the thread) or otherwise mentioned in here.

Thanks everybody for the input :D Started to work on a box for myself and a good budy.
Frist time ever that I've done "finger joints" to make a box... could be better, but could be worse as well ;)
Also depends on the tools you have in hand...

Edit:
ahoudini: will sent you a PN later today!

Murdoc,

I had to choose a way to do it, based on the available photos. I chose to inset the bottom on all four sides as I could not see any edge of the bottom board in any photo. The top, I inset on the front and back and had it sit on top of the two sides. This seemed to match the finger joints best and be stronger. Another choice would be to inset it on all fours sides like the bottom. Certainly the top is inset behind the front as the lettering photos show no edge of the top board.

This really is an epic thread, and reading rumors about HB III being in the works does not help in keeping myself out of this thread and wanting to actually build something after a long time of procrastinating.

Thanks for the feedback ahoudini :) Much appriciated :thumbsup

There is an additional option: by giving the top and bottom an inside L-shap-profile, which can be done to the plates as well, so that the
plates can be embedded (which will strengthen both parts (top and bottom) in addition).

Maybe asavage can give us a little more input here by posting detailed pics of the lid!!
asavage any help would be appriciated ;) :thumbsup :$ Many thanks in advance!

Hey - I worked on HELLBOY with Mike the propmaster and made a bunch of assorted doo-dads that maybe ended up in this box. I sculpted some small amulets and did some decorated resin-cast/aged monkey skulls and bone crosses wrapped in twine and old metal relics and beaded, crusty knick-knacks and what-nots with teeth and bones. Not sure what stuff of mine ended up in Broom's Box(es), but if there's any mysterious unknowns in any photos you have I could take a look and see if it looks familiar. I still have most of my molds, too. :)

Dude, I would love one of everything your molds can produce! Thanks, so much, for chiming in. Let me get some photos together and we will play "spot the prop!"

There were two boxes made. One is mine and one is Guillermo's. Mine didn't have the symbols in that cubby. G's did. His was also the one modified for the scenes in HBII, and then modified back to go into Guillermo's collection.

Interesting that they chose to modify the original prop and that he then had it changed back to its original state. Although if I remember it was really only the lid that needed to be changed.

Anything you have. This thread has been going on for a long time and everyone here is obsessively dedicated. More than just wanting the box we want to make it ourselves.

Wow!! Awesome resource!

Vintage hardware (not perfect, but pretty close) added to "rosary box" and amber shellac finish added and then rubbed back off with steel wool.
