The goatee and sideburns will be punched with a thicker hair (like yak hair or sheep hair), and the back will be a combination of glued and punched synthetic hair (unless I can find an affordable source for human hair).

So I have decided that horse hair is the way to go with the facial hair. I purchased 2 lbs of it this evening, which should be WAY more than I need for the first mask. I'm almost finished painting (I'll be finished this evening), and tomorrow I will paint and permanently attach the horns! The hair will arrive in about a week, so I will get some punching in before I leave for Montana on the 21st.

Okay, I lied. Pics today.
I'm happy with the paint job. It doesn't photograph well in my dark studio. I will have to get some outdoor shots of it tomorrow in sunlight after it is cured.
I won't be attaching the horns tomorrow though. I thought I had a tube of Sil-Poxy to do it, but I guess I didn't. But I will in a few days! In the meantime, I will still get them painted and ready to go.

Horns are attached permanently. I was a bit worried that the Sil-Poxy that I got from Smooth On wouldn't grab to the horns, but they locked in place. And also? THAT STUFF STINKS SOMETHING FIERCE.
Things are moving really fast now. My Samaritan is about 75% painted now. This week I will be sending out the duster and boots for alterations. I also got all the hardware I need for the Right Hand of Doom. And as soon as I get the proper saw, I'll start making new articulated fingers!
I'm hoping the horse hair shows up tomorrow. I'm really anticipating starting on the hair punching. I'd like to get the entire front done before I head out of town on the 21st.

this is absolutely amazing. i've been a huge Hellboy fan for about 13 years, so this is SO exciting! great job!
when do you think you'll have everything finished? in time for Halloween?

My goal is to be finished by early October. I am attending a horror convention in Florida in late October where I will be wearing this. They have an awesome costume contest that I will be entering.
As far as costumes like this, I have done three; a Pinhead costume that I was never really happy with, a Zombie Wolverine costume that I would like to redo some day, and now Hellboy.
