Re: Hellboy Costume - Working on the small details!

Took it out for a test run today in downtown Minneapolis.

I'm going to have to tweak a few things; the tail is hanging low and drags, and the dentures get really uncomfortable after a while.

The contacts work well. I need to work on getting the makeup on my eyes done better.

All in all a pretty good test run. The entire thing gets packed up and shipped to Florida this week!

Re: Hellboy Costume - Working on the small details!

This has got to be one of the best builds i've seen on RPF. I absolultely love it - fantastic work

Re: Hellboy Costume - Working on the small details!

Very nice. On the tail, do you have an armature in it?

Negative. It's a foam core, which is covered in tinted rubber, which is covered in stretchy nylon, and covered in tinted rubber. I'm not completely happy with it, but I simply ran out of time. I know the proper way to do it will be to do a sculpt, make a mold, and cast in silicone with an armature (probably wire of some sort) in the middle, but that will have to wait until after Halloween.

The entire costume has been shipped to Florida. I'll be wearing it next weekend at Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend, where I will also be raffling off a copy of the silicone mask to raise money for Team Robin to help a girl with Cerebral Palsy get a power chair. I know some of you will be there, so please, come say hi!:thumbsup

Re: Hellboy Costume - See you at Spooky Empire!

So the costume has been shipped to Orlando, and I'll be hopping on a plane to join it Thursday. Everyone who is going to Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend - see you there! Hopefully I should have some awesome photos by the time I get back.

If you do remake the tail drop by a home improvement place and ask for a couple of cardboard baler wires. Steel wire for tying up bales of cardboard, you might be able to get some from walmart or walgreens. But 2 or 3 pieces doubled would give you a decent armature to build on. The wires are about 10 feet long and if you took 3 and spiral wound them then folded them back on themselves and double wound it you should have a thick wire strand about 4.5 feet long you can shape anyway you need.

Back in high school I used those wires to build a tree for the girls school's production of Oklahoma. Just the wires, papier mache' pantyhose and paint. With a few sandbags in the base to make it stable.

The director said I did a good job.

Orlando was great, and the costume was a huge hit! I donated one of the masks to a friend who is raising funds to get a power standing wheelchair for her daughter who has cerebral palsy, and we raised over $900!

I was having major issues with sweating in the costume. I think I'm going to have to build a cooling suit for underneath it. I managed 2 1/2 hours in it last Saturday, and another 4 1/2 hours in it on Sunday. By the time I took it off, the sweat had soaked right through the thick leather duster jacket.

You look AWESOME!!!

I feel your pain about the sweat! I lovingly refer to my HellBoy outfit as my new weight loss program! I would have to remove the Right Hand of Doom regularly to pour out the pooled sweat!!!:sick

Great pics! Your efforts and skill paid off BIG TIME!!!:angry
