HCG Korben Blaster - it's here! (Photos/Review)

Received my replacement the other day.

Many thanks to the folks at HGC! (y)thumbsup

You guys rock!

Received my replacement just now, that was really fast, which was good.

Only problem is I can't get it to power on. I'm not going to jump the gun and say the electronics don't work (because it might have been powered on while on the trip over here, possibly draining the batteries), I'm going to buy some replacement batteries this week and see if that fixes it.

EDIT: Actually, it couldn't have been powered on while in shipment, since the plastic strip was between the battery and the battery holder. I'll still attempt new batteries, but if that doesn't fix it then I don't know what to do, haha.

So the blaster wouldn't turn on even after you removed the plastic strip?

Did fresh batteries do the trick?

Yep, even after the strip was removed it still wouldn't turn on. I haven't bought new batteries yet, since they're pretty expensive here, but I'll post in this thread when I get to test them out. I'm really, really hoping it's the batteries. :cry

Mine didn't turn on immediately (after travelling nearly as far) but I pushed the on/off switch a few times and wiggled the batteries and it started working - YMMV.

Note to HCG: "Korben Replacement" isn't really a valid description for a customs declaration. Mine got opened up to figure out what the hell it was - then repackaged badly with the painted surfaces rubbing directly against the styrofoam. A description like "plastic model" might have worked better :)

Thanks for the suggestion, because it worked! I just fiddled with the battery pack for a little while and it started to flash on. It's really sensitive, I've found I have to push the two battery compartments together to keep it on. So whenever I show someone, I have to open it up and just hold it together. It doesn't bother me too much though, just glad to know the electronics work.

I got my replacement yesterday (it miraculously passed the customs without any problems) and unfortunately have to say that the electronics are worse than on the first one. Like others have mentioned before I also had to press the on/off switch a couple of times (and had to pull it out with my fingernails every time since it got stuck) to start the electronics. When finally the LED and the display lit up, I tested the counter and although it “clicked” every time I pulled the trigger it didn´t work constantly. Added to that I also have the loose contact battery holder.

I´m not whining, especially since the draining problem with the first one can easily be fixed with an additional switch installed at the battery holder and thus for the replacement was just a great free bonus for me. It´s just that I see zero sense in shipping replacements that yet again have problems with the electronics…

I've noticed a few minor details in mine as well. My magnetic battery cover looks a little warped (making it a little loose as well) and the trigger is a little off. Not really noticeable, but I just find it odd. Although I'm just glad the electronics work better than the last one.

So who's going to step up and make some aluminum replacement parts? The square plate behind the 'barrel' is warped on mine.

Me too!!! :cry

Still dont know how the whole replacement thing works if you bought through propstore!!

Since I ordered one for a friend of mine through the Propstore back in February I asked them about the replacements this morning and here is their reply: "[...] we have recently received our replacements in from HCG. I am sorry for the delay in contacting you but we have been working through each order and replacing them as the customer sees fit."

Got mine today.....complete with some sorta faulty electronics again unfortunately!!:confused:rolleyes

Is there anything HCG has to say about this? Maybe another replacement ?:lol Seriously though, it would be nice for future purchases to know that someone in the factory is not only putting the "QC passed" sticker on the package but is actually also checking the quality...

I spoke (via emai) to Alex earlier who stated his concerns saying they have noticed a few RPFers saying the same about their replacement blasters and are gonna look into it but personally I dont think we'll see another replacement and to be honest, I dont really want one now!! Id rather see a good will gesture along the lines of a HCG voucher for say, 50% of the initial purchase fee. I love the blaster and hats of to HCG for dealing with the replacement issues in the manner they did but the working counter and laser sight was what made it somewhat special.....but unfortunately they dont work after two attempts!! Just kinda disappointed is all!!!!

Wow, it's really too bad that the replacement are still not working right. :eek

Have to admit I'm glad I went with a kit that has metal parts included.

Is there a way for people to fix these issues on their own without a complete rewire?

Can HCG send out new guts all wired up and ready to install made by a different company or something so they know it's solid?

:unsure

It's a pretty involved procedure to get to the electronics. I would only do that as a last resort.

what do you guys think are the chances of another firm doing this blaster with metal parts and, more importantly, charging / fireing sounds? I've ordered one and hope it's ok. Is the fault with the replacement ones exactly the same as the first wave?
