Haslab Ghost Trap & PKE Meter

Is there a hidden functionality in the trap that has not been mentioned by Hasbro or reviewed by anyone?

The reason I think that is because of the weird component opposite the yellow LED on the bar graph.

It's a very shiny hemisphere. It looks like some sort of IR infrared receiver? Like the crossing the streams functionality on the old Matty wands. I may be imagining things but that part looks quite specific and not like a normal molded plastic part. I believe it's also not on any of the screen used traps (GB1, GB2, AF, don't know about FE)

What do you all think?

i agree, looks like a traditional IR node.

Yeah, that's what it looks like most. Lets speculate what it could be for. If it's an IR sensor is it a receiver only or also a transmitter? Is it maybe something like the audio jack on the old Matty wand, a component they added thinking they'd do a pack in the future.

Could this be a part installed with a future product in mind? Ecto goggles? (heck does the PKE have an IR transmitter on it anywhere?)

If it's a receiver it means the trap does something in response to a signal from another product. But in universe the functionality of the trap is operated by the user (pedal) not anything autonomous. The only autonomous thing could be shaking or sound effects? But it never does that in response to anything/another tool, it just does it at random after a capture. Very intriguing.

Maybe it's a light sensor, so the trap sounds different if it is "slid" into a dark alcove, like delivery to containment?

Right. In universe, How would it know to open and empty the trap? It has to communicate somehow. Infrared light from inside the containment unit sends data to the ir receiver to OPEN.

I am signing on for this being the case (aka I agree)

I'm not convinced. A containment unit would be way down on Hasbro's list of props (where would you even display/mount such a 4 foot "toy"? like clear up a wall in your house? Have it sitting on a desk?).

Also the trap is out of sight when in the containment unit. Whatever it does when being emptied doesn't fit any play patterns or functionality.

The most logical sense is that's its either something standalone (a motion sensor that plays sound effects when a human is close) or something to do with the PKE?

I don’t think they are suggesting Hasbro will make a containment unit. I think they mean if you have one it could function that way.

It must be for something coming in the future since I don’t believe any current props they have made have an IR transmitter.

Thinking logically, what makes most sense to me is that it (could be) a motion sensor that plays various sound effects when a human is in close proximity. But that depends on the time out of these things. If it's 5 minutes like the pack then a human is always going to be close to it, so a play pattern of having someone be far away and then close doesn't make the most sense.

Next best scenario is that it's something built in readiness for a future product (which can only be the Ecto goggles), but I can't figure out how a sensor on the trap would interact in a play pattern with any future goggles.

That dome is definitely -something- though. I can't imagine that shiny part, that looks so much like a sensor of sorts, being something meaningless or just a plastic greebly.

Edit: Creatively, the simplest explanation to me is that the device doesn't have a time out. It is always on and plays sound effects when it detects a person in close proximity. But I have no idea how that fits into toy manufacturing regulations and legality.

Or is it a simple light sensor that calibrates the bright internal white LED's according to ambient light to conserve the battery power? Then again, I don't believe LED's change amps depending on how dim they are. Man I'm so confused right now.

If ecto goggles might be coming. VR ecto goggles would mean you could "trap" a ghost but if they were being sporting it would need to be aimed correctly. With bluetooth combined with IR, you could set up the goggles and the trap to open and either successfully capture or fail to capture a ghost. Just playing what if but it is possible. Light sensors look different, traditionally, they are clear lens flat with a portion of fresnel looking patterns. IR is often used for distance measuring tools and alignment devices as well as communication but because we now have bluetooth, I would say it would be used for positioning.

So perhaps a positioning play pattern with upcoming Ecto goggles? PKE sends out a ghost signature, goggles "locate" them in augented reality space, trap primes the appropriate sound effects, as you get closer the spectral image sharpens in the goggles, wand fires (audio mic pic up in goggles), you roll the trap out, location is picked up in the goggles via sensor, wand firing animation is in goggles (mic pickup like Matty pke) then the trap closes via sensor and wand animation stops on mic pickup?

That is one tricky little manouver for 3 sets of props.

I'm just finding it hard to understand why I'm seeing channels with early review copies. What is the point of a review copy of it can not possibly drive more sales. Just send my stuff. Don't they know I'm impatient?
One thing I've noticed in the Tested and News videos (I couldn't stand the YHS) was that they mentioned the current Haslab. I'm curious if that was an official talking point.
