Hasbro NERF M41-A Pulse Rifle

This is a pretty sweet piece.

I finished it this past long-weekend

I wonder if it's worth cutting back the nerf barrel slightly, It required for dart functionality but its one of the few things that really give it away. Cutting down an inch of barrel shouldn't ruin the performance I'd guess.

You could but in fairness the Nerf is not SA accurate by any means and cutting the barrel wouldn't make it more so IMO.

Its more like a slightly different model of the standard M41-A in the same way that you would get different models of the AR-15 - for example the AR-15 and AR-556

WOO-HOO....!!...I finally got mine (Australia) I never pre-ordered (didn't know you could a year ago)....they're not in stock and depending who you talk to at EB Games/Zing Culture they won't be...because they only filled the pre-order.....but apparently they will be in very limited stock in October (according to a few game news sites)....so who knows what to believe....Mine was a cancelled pre-order

I'd buy 5 more, paint, weather and sell, if I can find more....so this one will be a test. If I can't find anymore, I'll keep this one.

Mine in Canada just got a shipping tracking number, but unfortunately I live in europe now, and I bet shipping it over will cost more in customs VAT and shipping that the value of the blaster.

:/

A friend did tip me off to this interesting "MG42" blaster from china, could maybe be a contender to become a smartgun, and a great companion to the Nerf M41A. Haven't got one on hand to see what the internals are like and if you can remove the pistol grip without breaking the functionality.

Edit: I ordered it, if it arrives through EU customs I'll post a build on it.

Edit 2:
Came across this Korean video of someone actually doing a M56 build with one! Really hope EU customs allows it to arrive

THAT… is a stunning job. What’d you use for the brown/green? Actually tell me all the colors you used!
Thanks very much, the Bug Stomper decal looks a lot brighter in the photo than it really is in real life.

Colors? The metalwork was first painted flat black and then I added a Pewter Rub-n-Buff in some select places where I felt there would be more wear. The black overcoat was done using a flat black but leaving parts of the shiny Run-n-Buff showing as if the paint had chipped off the metal. I then added some graphite powder in a few select places where I felt that a natural metal sheen would work best

The base color of the shroud was a mixture of Moss Green, Napthol Crimson and Black. To make it as grimy as I wanted it to be (I based the finish on a well known collector's original prop that I have always loved), I used a mixture of Napthol Crimson and Black. Finally, I used a black wash to create some deeper grime. The chipped paint on the shroud was picked out later in light grey. I sparingly used white where I wanted it to look as if the chips were new.

I hope this helps.

Airbrushed? How was the masking job?

I've been debating . Would the shrouds have been made in metal? I figured it would be plastic or composite. So no silver there./ Just figuring out how I'm gonna do the weathering on mine

I guess its a toss-up between making it SA or if its an interpretation of a 'real' weapon a future soldier might carry. Since the Hasbro is by far not SA I felt I would rather make mine reflect what I thought a future weapon might be comprised of, while still trying to keep it looking similar in look and feel to the screen used beauties. The shroud on a future weapon would IMO be made of some composite similar to Kevlar and not metal and so I figured if the shroud paint chipped, it would expose the color of the treatment used to prime the composite - hence the light grey I used.

It's all meant to create the look of a weapon that has been much loved by the troop carrying it after many years in the most hostile environments but the physical finish of my Pulse is still only for visual impact. Speaking as a combat veteran of 12 years service and a firearm instructor, I would have murdered any troop who's weapon looked as tatty as mine does!

I know what you mean. While I don't wanna overthink it, many repaints I've seen look crazy weathered whereas no real military-issued weapon I've handled has ever looked that way . lol
