Has anyone watched The Road?

As a post apocalyptic fan I'm interested in it but after reading the stinker of the book it is based on I'm not so sure. If i can get it for like 5.00 maybe since it has parts filmed locally. I wanted everyone's take on it as it was advertised as a must see movie and I swear it didn't even hit theaters. I know I have to get Book of Eli for sure.

The movie is a pretty direct adaptation for the most part, so you might want to avoid it if you didn't like the book. I enjoyed them both.

I bought the dvd when it first came out and was hugely disappointed. I'm a Viggo fan and although his acting was great, the film itself seemed to focus more on emotions and lacked severely in action. Grade: C- in my book.

My son auditioned for the part of the son when they were holding auditions in Austin. He's a big Viggo fan. He refuses to let anyone watch the movie since he didn't get the part. Apparently, he wasn't skinny enough.

lol. I hate to say this but the book would have been a lot better if the kid hadn't been so whiny. I think he was written to be whinier than a real kid would be after surviving so long in this world. Kids tend to catch on fast and he wrote the kid to be a bit of a burden. I was kinda surprised that out of all the beaches in the country they picked lake erie at presque Isle. Then again its only 120 miles from where they were filming in pittsburgh.

I haven't read the book but I thought the movie was very well done. Extremely depressing but what do you expect from a movie about dying people on a dying world.

As much as I like the Mad Max movies and derivatives I can't really see a bunch of people dressed in S & M outfits fighting over gasoline if there is a war or catastrophic event.

Especially since all that fuel would be used up within like a year in most places if not sooner.

The movie was excellent. If you are looking for a Mad Max movie, then this isn't it. If you are into a true to life representation of what a man and his son go through after the world ends, then this is your movie.

I saw it when it came out...talk about depressing. As a movie I liked it, but still, after seeing it, you need to go do something to bring a smile back to your face.

If you didn't like the whiny kid in the book, then you're going to hate the whiny kid in the movie.

I thought the book was okay, but I absolutely hated the movie because of the kid!

True at least in the book you can skip those parts more easily than in the movie. To be honest if I was the kid's dad i'd have let the cannibals have him.

So was he worse then Will Smiths kid in
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL ?

:sick

People complained about wooden KR, but
DAMN I wanted GORT to KILL that whiny kid !

:lol

Will Smith?

I found the road long and tedious and a dead end.

I think that family at the end ate him afterwards.

I thought it was good. It is, HOWEVER, very, VERY depressing. And bleak.

This is one of those films that makes me start to ponder what I might do if thrust into that situation.

Spoilers ho:
Makes you wonder if SO many people would be so quick to resort to cannibalism, if some cataclysm occurred like that in real life?

I'd like to think not, but I wouldn't be surprised...

P.S. And yes, the kid in the film was FAR too whiny.

I came across The Road on tv last week, so I thought I'd give it a try. After 30-45 minutes I realized I was completely bored and not really following the story, so I changed the channel.

The other day I watched The Book of Eli. It held my interest from start to finish, but one viewing was more than enough for me. Maybe post-apocalyptic films just aren't my thing.

I hated that you had no idea what happened to ruin things in The Road. Personally with all that ash he writes about I think a super volcano blew up like the one under Yellowstone that is overdue. It would also explain why his lungs are shredded.

I expected it to be a good movie myself I saw it on one of the MAX channels the other day, it was definatly not what I was expecting.
