Hi All,
I've come back round to a Harry Potter phase (Having spent some time doing Alien: Isolation stuff). I recently did a re-watch of the entire series (who hasn't done this multiple times?!), and I've rediscovered my love for the mandrakes in Chamber of Secrets. While I didn't want to tackle a fully mature (or adolescent) mandrake, I thought it would be cool to create a tiny seedling...
He was made from a rough armature of wire and aluminium foil. From there I built him up using "green stuff" modelling putty. (Its flexibility when hardened meant it would survive some handling!) I then used a plastic aquarium plant for the tuft of foliage, with teased out embroidery thread for the roots.
He was painted simply with Vallejo acrylics and Games Workshop washes. He was then clear coated and brushed down with MIG weathering powder.

I also recently made a flyer for a Duelling Supplies shop that would sit on Diagon Alley. I thought that duelling was an accepted sport/pastime in the HP world, and the duelling club in CoS was a good starting point for inspiration.
I did some quick research into old European names (as there is something quite martial sounding about them) and came up with Eric Adelbrand as my shop owner. (Eric - Old Norse. Adelbrand - Old German for Noble or Burning Sword. Be kind, I'm not exactly a expert in ancient languages!)
After some brainstorming with pencil sketches, I started laying things out in Photoshop. I continued the martial theme by placing heraldic shields in the corners. I mixed up the different typefaces to match that HP style (seen in The Daily Prophet etc). I had to draw out the crossed wands and phases of the moon from scratch.
All printed on parchment paper and photographed with some other made and found props.

Finally, a while ago I made up an Animagus License to go alongside the Ministry of Magic ID featured in Film Wizardry. As everyone know, wizards love purple and bright green, so as the ID was purple, I went for a green license. Again, all laid out in Photoshop then printed on green card for the cover, with plain white for the interior. I used the same background pattern, typeface etc as the ID, but with relevant fields for an Animagus.
