harry potter cosplaying

oh, that sounds pretty similar to what I've done then with the exception of the bit about doing the nailbed colour on the underside. That's actually a really good idea!
(I didn't do it like that initially as I thought the glue might remove the paint when the nails were removed, but I may have to give it a shot.)

Thanks :)

The glue does take off a lot of the paint but I bought a set of 50 nails and painted about 30 of them knowing they would fall off (as long nails are want to do) and through the night I had to replace about 3 or 4 but I was just playing it safe with so many extras.
I also filed the surface of the nails slightly to take away the glossy shine of the plastic so it wouldnt look so perfect, and it helped the paint stay on better I think.

What glue did you use? Normal nail glue?

I sanded mine down too and (bizarrely) soaked them in various spices which gave them a really stained them with a really nice "dirty" look before I added the paint. Worked quite well :)

BUMP! :)

it's officially back on, we're cosplaying on 2nd August in memory of our lost one
expect to see lots of pictures around that time!

i have an idea and source of cheap fabric for my costume, and will be starting work on that a.s.a.p, so i hope to keep you all updated on that.

until then,
J.C

I had a quick look but although I've got some really nice high res pics of Bella with her wand, I dont have any at the right angle to show the writing. The best thing to do (if you know someone with one of the Nobel wands, would be to have a look at that, and maybe take a rubbing of it to use as a template.

Failing that, if you google "bellatrix wand" on google, and switch to video mode, there are a few vids there which may help. If not, post back up here and I'll have another look

Her replacement wand...

hey, kessa, i have a question or two for you :)

i myself am doing voldemort's costume. may i ask you to PM me with some info regarding your robes, such as what material (and its colour) you used, what you wore under your robes, shoes to wear, etc? i also understand that you are based in the UK too?

much appreciated,
J.C

i'm now starting planning a set of death eater robes! :) i've started my voldemort robes (at the moment, they're MASSIVE) and i've made a few wands for the group.

kessa, any more news on that info i asked for? dont worry if not :)

many thanks,
J.C

Oh sorry JC - I was waiting for your PM but didn't receive one (or at least, I dont think I have - can't see it in my inbox)

Re the fabric. Are you doing OotP version or GoF (as they're both different)

Drop me a PM and I'll do my best to help.

K

Anyone have any idea what these shoes are? They're the ones Harry wears under his school robes (at least in OotP).

haha - I can tell you I've spent several months looking for them for a friend and that I've literally searched over 30,000 and still not found them lol

The closest I managed to find were "Clarks Rustle GTX" - if you do an image search on Google for them they should come up. They dont have exactly the same design, but of all the shoes, they seemed to be the closest.

Another option was the "Aldo Bujnowski"
Amazon.com: ALDO Bujnowski - Clearance Men Casual Shoes: Shoes

Again, they have a similar look, but dont hold up to a "side by side" type comparison.

I hope that gives you a starting point. They're still on my list of things to track down :)

UPDATES!

as most of you may know, i shall be costuming as voldemort. i will be doing the OoTP costume, and i have finished the outer robe! i found this great, lightweight black fabric that suited the cause wonderfully, so that's what i have used.

i will be starting work on a bespoke death eater robe for a friend within the next week, so i'll keep you all updated on that.

and finally, my voldemort will be a little different. i'm toying with the idea of wearing a half mask (very Phantom of the Opera style) instead of doing a complex prosthetic. so i'll be designing, sculpting and casting that soon too. once again, it'll become clearer over time...

pictures and sketches will follow as soon as i'm able to, and i may post a video of how flowy my robes are :)

many thanks,
J.C
