Putting Shia in any movie is a good way to kill it. he and megan fox aren't going to be getting work in infomercials soon with their attitudes. I think what got most folks was the nuke and refrigerator more than the aliens. I mean aliens are part of the crystal skull lore after all.
I loved the nuke the fridge segment. Thought that and the test town were the high point of the film. (I'm not joking). It was just silly, over the top fun. The rest of the film was a friggin mess. Those ants...*****.
I like KOTCS, but it wasn't up to par with the originals. I don't think the fridge was to blame. And the shot of Indy with the mushroom cloud? Awesome.
I also liked the campus "red scare" scenes. I guess the Cold War kinda draws me, and I felt the nuke and the campus really put me in the era, as overblown as it all was. It was no more over the top than the TOD banquet, except it was physical and not cultural hyperbole.
