Holy cow, i feel dumb. I never knew there was a difference! You can probably tell I don't own my own home :lolThis is really helpful, thank you! At this point, it looks like I'm going for some crossed stunt version, this is really fun.

I actually got talking to some people who were re-building those jet engines and this one guy was looking for the emitter part, the balance pipe. I got talking with him and he was going to let me know when he had a contact, but then he asked me for photos of MY Derwent engine, and I awkwardly..never emailed him back :rolleyes

It also helps that most of my working life I've been employed in one DIY home center or another. The kicker is, when I show someone my sabers at work, they often don't recognise the parts that actually came from the store they work in. Duh.

Not a whole lot sadly, we got another vintage clamp and found it fit over some sink pipe seamlessly, and I've been searching for parts and new ideas. Ironically one of those tailpieces that have a bulged flange for under sinks...upside down that could be painted black for the "gear" on a V2....

I really should add V2 to the title of this thread, we've found more parts tat look like that then the grenade/booster saber.

Here's our vintage clamp, over a sink tailpiece, and beneath it...is the bottom to a 2 cell flash gun. we got it when we bought our 3 cell from a photography collector, it looks a lot like the bottom of a V2 or shared stunt without the cubes...Obviously I'd remove the threads and a little bit of the pipe below the clamp. looks like a great place to paint black though

Maybe you could buy an actual pommel from the custom saber shop? I've never bought anything from them, but have heard good things about their service. Price isn't too bad also IMO.

I could, true. That would probably involve some type of screw, and then a dowel most likely or something that runs through the entire prop. Haha That is another option, thank you.

I liked this idea, because the shared stunts didn't really have that handwheel for pommels, just the cube design around a tube. If I were trying to pull off a real ANH replica i would definitely go that route, that just got a little too much for our budget and time constraints.

Ahh EDIT: looking at their website all their pieces screw together with threading. That might pose a problem for attatching it to anything other than a threaded tube..

Hope this makes sense but... First cut a section of PVC pipe the width of the "cubes" that can slide over the metal tube that's the butt end of the saber. Then cut some "cubes" from PVC pipe or a coupling and glue them around the section of pipe that you've already cut. Then grind the ends of the "cubes" to the appropriate angle. You'll end up with something that looks a bit like the "cube" section of an actual AS handwheel that can slide onto the saber's tube. Paint the color of your choice.

1 1/4" thin wall PVC can be used for the "section" and the cubes could be cut from 1 1/4" coupling. The same pipe and coupling combo can also be used to fashion a Vader/MPP style shroud.

I read your post, Tan Djarka a few days ago and it didn't register for some reason, I just went back and read it again and that's brilliant! it might be a little hard keeping everything together, but man thank you

Is it me or do all the ROTJ shared stunt machined copies on here have an inaccurate (to the screen) emitter? It feels like (out of the 3 steps) they are too long/large with a thick emitter plate. Is this just because of copyright do you think, or are there schematics out there that have larger dimensions...

I dunno, maybe i'm completely wrong, but looking at pictures, i get that gut feeling right away

EDIT: I don't mean to go on about inaccuracy, but making the top out of hardware can look better than machining it it seems. I just got a "chunky" feel from ones that were machined, and i thought I'd share/bring it up

I just picked up Vacuum tube from..okay you know air hockey tables? Well that tech was designed by John Stull for use in air tracs for frictionless physics at the university I go to. My boss let me have some scrap vacuum hose (about 4 feet) from the originals, steel gauged wire coiling around inside to make the "ribs". It looks like straight rings but is coiled so there is a little angle. It's not completely accurate, obv, but is a great start. It's even the exact right dimensions!

Picked up one of the last machined balance pipes from measurements form kurtyboy, steel and weathered. This with the tubing and clamp I already have, is going to turn out to be quite the original. I was thinking of using a dowel for a spacer within the emitter head and possibly throughout the body, what do people think?

Updated photo, nothing is secured, it's all just slipped on for the photo, but this is a start!

The silver tube I'm planing on cutting down and using for at least a spacer behind the clamp, if not the flange for a smooth black section below like the V2....

Some progress!

So the lack of a rotary tool and money led me into looking for cheaper parts, Still have no idea how I'm going to fit everything together, the grenade fits over half inch pipe or a dowel, the pommel fits on anything 1.25 " the graflex clamp is obviously 1.5 inches inside, and the emitter is an inch inside...haha

I have a bunch of transistors that came off some old equipment, but these two looked the best, they do vary quite a bit. I'll paint the gold one, if I end up using it, is there a consensus on the type of transistor?

Once you get or make a booster, get three different dowel sticks at the appropriate diameters for each piece, cut them to the right lengths, and glue/screw them all together for a spacer. You could look at Russrep's adapter piece for a rough idea of shape.

As for the emitter, a few people have used plastic/delrin in the right diameter and then tapped it for a threaded rod or carriage bolt.

Also, regarding the gap between the clamp and grenade... One of the older replica clamps, I believe the one made by Larbel, was slightly smaller in diameter than the current versions. You could try getting one of those to see if it reduces the gap enough for adjustments.
