In an attempt to make some space in my workshop, I built this little number from parts I had lying around. I quite like the idea of the protosaber, with a belt-mounted power source and a cable running to the saber itself. While highly impractical in the real world, it's awesome from a sci-fi perspective :cool

The main body is a section of 1.25" sink pipe with an oval cutout. The emitter is made up of 1.25" and 1" PVC conduit. The whole thing is held together with machine screws.

I wanted to make a vintage-looking crystal chamber, with an old vacuum tube serving as inspiration. The chamber is cobbled together from a $1 store flashlight (dremeled out and painted), a brass hose bushing, a copper endcap, and the flashlight's original LED assembly. The crystal itself is carved from a hot glue stick, and held in place with more hot glue. A small piece of clear 1" tubing (not pictured) completed the look.

I then rigged it up to another flashlight with the top sawed off.

The power pack's main body is the casing from a Spirit Halloween voice changer. The diode-like structure is a section of 1" PVC pipe with a piece of the flashlight stuck in the end. This is connected to the main body with rivets (and a screw, since I ran out of rivets
) via a square of sintra.
The power cable is just electrical conduit tube. I drilled a hole in the flashlight end cap and secured it in place with hot glue.

And some nice shots of the crystal chamber. I decided to color it orange to match the main LED. The wrap is a length of fabric cut from an old t-shirt and painted to look like leather.

Overall, I really like this saber! I think it has a wonderful vintage, almost antique appearance.
