Limited Run Han Solo ROTJ Blaster Active Project

yeah with the exception of using the Denix over a Mauser (cuz I like paying my mortgage), I'm all about the blaster LOOKING as close to what I see on screen as possible. However, I have no issues with using aluminum parts rather than what the original prop had- I like to think if it were a real gun, a blaster wouldn't have plastic and rubber parts attached.

So not worried about it MATERIAL accurate... but visually accurate....

If we can locate the correct scope rings and buy them off the shelf you will have to remove a small amount of material from the inside foot and it will fit properly.

If we can't find them and end up casting the rings I have the correct version and it's modified so it will work right.

With that info, I strongly vote for top rail off set , 2 piece scope bracket.

Sorry to back track but for the square detail piece how will it attach to the blaster? Could it have a threaded stud on the back so we could drill a hole in the denix, add threads and easily screw the detail in?

^ I was wondering about that as well.

As for the scope bracket, I also vote for the 2 piece off set version for the sake of accuracy.

No worries about back tracking.

In the past I have always used epoxy with the rubber squares. If we make it from aluminum, JB Weld would be the best way to attach it

If you look at the picture you can see that part of the square hangs over the right side recess, The epoxy or JB Weld would fill in the gap. Plus hole for the rod would be very close to where the areas change thickness, which would make drilling and tapping it very difficult.

Ok, I see what your saying. Will it have a perfectly flat bottom or hollowed out a bit?

So, is the offset rail piece there for filler so the scope ring mount has enough metal to hold onto?

I completely agree. The look is the most important part. At least for me.

No, it actually make it harder to mount the ring unless you remove material from the inside foot. The rail is off set down making the tapered gap smaller.

If it was flush or off set upward it would make mounting the ring easier.

I believe that made a mistake when the built the rail and didn't worry about fixing it. I think they just made it work.

Exactly. This is totally one of those situations where someone messed up and they just thought "Well, as long as everything stays connected between 'action' and 'cut,' we'll be fine."

And granted, a majority of us will keep our blasters on a shelf, but I'd still rather have the most secure connection for the scopes possible.

I guess in a real world scenario the rail should be flush with the bracket and possibly all 1 piece. Any idea how much of cost difference there would be for 1 piece vs 2?

I have no idea the it seems that most people like the offset. I would feel like I am imposing on my machinist to ask him to quote a part that probably will not be made.

BUT I have an idea and I will let everyone know once I talk to the shop.

We hit 30 but really need 10 more to keep this affordable and 20 more to keep it at the original estimate

I wonder if the project will get more exposure if we move the discussion into the prop forum.

Yes it would but the mods do not allow that.

Even though this thread will contain discussions about parts and an in depth assembly tutorial with lots of tips.

This decision has been a huge hindrance to Active Projects since the first day they decided to move them to the Junkyard.

what was the original estimate ??? Also are the pieces going to be ordered all at once or are we going to be ordering them in waves ? Just wondering if i am going to need to start making payment lol.
