Han Solo ESB DL-44 Blaster HELP!!!

Hi Guys,

New to RPF, and I'm hoping not too late...

I'm planning on putting together an accurate metal version of the ESB version of the DL-44 and I'm starting to wonder if it's even technically possible. I don't want to use any resin parts but it seems that this is all that's available anymore... obviously all of the original parts are probably used up by now but I'd at the VERY least like to have aluminum/steel parts for the majority of the build.

Is there ANYONE on here that has recently built a full metal ESB DL-44 and knows where to get the parts? Price isn't really an option at this point, I would just like to know if I am going to be able to find any of the parts or if I'm going to have to unfortunately resort to a resin model.

If you know where to get the parts or have any idea of who may, please, please, please let me know. I think I am set as far as the Mauser C96 is concerned, they don't look to hard to obtain, it's just the greebles and scope/mounting bracket that I'm concerned about.

Thanks a bunch guys, I really appreciate your help!

A member is going to do a run of metal parts this year. There is an interest thread in the junkyard.

There is a seller on eBay from Argentina who sells some stuff in machined aluminum. I haven't bought anything from him, but I saw it when I researched my ESB DL-44, and went with resin & 3D printed parts.

Scope Bracket:

Scope:

The whole lot would cost about $140 pre-shipping, & couldn't hurt to ask about shipping discount if you do go with this guy.

Good luck!

Yeah man I saw those, they're looking like the best options right now...

Where dod did you get your greebles? After some thought I don't think I would mind having a FEW resin parts, just don't want to cheapen the overall feel

I think a resin-cast scope would look more accurate up-close than that machined one that you can buy BIN on eBay - if you fix it up. The real ones were cast in brass and then some details were machined. There are several people who do casts, and some could offer them "cold-cast", I.e. in resin with metal powder.
You could also hollow out and replace some details with real metal: I always replace moulded screwheads with real ones. Then you should install lenses in either case.

The difficult part of the bracket could be the knob, depending on which version you go for. The bracket itself can be cut from L-profile aluminium. The measurements for the different versions can be found in the recent research-thread.

But if you have patience, then I think you should wait for Boba Debt's group order.

If you want accurate and quality wait for Boba's run... Nothing will be better aside from finding a real M19 or M32 scope. They're out there, I picked up another last week.

But Boba's run will be about as accurate as we can get it...since we're all housing for accuracy. The replica scope will be cast from a real one with real glass, so it'll be MILES better than a resin cast.

I got my side bit from this guy:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-E...060?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4bf93eec

It's 3D printed. I'm pretty happy with it, it cost about $12 shipped.

Here's the same thing on Shapeways. They *may* have better QA, or it could be the same.

Interesting... I kind of ruled out 3D printed parts, and I came across both of those pages but was kind of worried that the quality wouldn't be up to par. I've never bought or seen anything that's been printed out of plastic and in my mind there would be the question of structural integrity... also the amount of cleanup/sanding/etc I would have to do.

Do you have a picture of your blaster?

He will help with shipping, the Argentinean. I haven't received my parts yet since he is still fabricating them. I'm looking at an early March delivery.

Hi Starrfox1 and welcome on board ... I've got the feeling you're quite in a rush to get the parts you seek, right? Meanwhile if your cash is not burning a hole in your pocket just now, it's probably best to be a little patient for that ESB/Hoth parts run to start and then get the best available screen-accurate blaster parts money can buy :)

Truer word my friend... I've done just about all the research I can and I think that it's probably my best bet.I looked at a lot of the blasters and parts available and they don't seem to be the kind of quality I want. Hopefully more people will spring up so that Boba can justify doing another run, he emailed me and was very helpful. In the meantime I suppose I'll focus on getting the rest of the ensemble together. I'm actually considering getting the Anovos ESB costume, it looks super well put together

Just out of curiosity ... show us your blaster parts when they arrive, okay ... and also welcome on board Hostamon :) ... and yes it seems Anovos are producing very high end stuff, curious to see some pictures too when you've received your ESB costume Starrfox1 possibly with a personal review ;)

I'm thinking about getting that piston part from Evolution, looks like Boba Debt is planning on making these out of resin (correct me if I'm wrong) but for $30 I think upgrading to aluminum would be pretty sweet... depending on the accuracy of the part of course.

Sym-Cha, let's hope I can scrounge up $1,200 to get one :) I am pretty sure that the full completed ensemble with blaster, belt, caller, belt accessories, etc will probably end up being over $2,000; I'm not sure how much Boba is charging for the completed, serviced blaster. Luckily... tax returns...

But the AL versions aren't cast from the real ones, and since the originals were plastic anyway, I think resin is better honestly.

Oh no kidding? I swear, I learn something new every day... it's amazing what a little weathering will do, I thought all this time that it was a metal part. I'm super duper stoked for Boba's run, I've decided that in the grand scheme of things it's far more worth it to be patient - no matter how long it takes.

BTW - emailed Anovos and let them know I was interested, I can't pay them until mid-March but asked about possibly reserving... they opened a ticket for me so fingers crossed!
