I just want to share what I have done this year for my kids (10 and 7 year olds) for their Halloween. This project started last November and I finally completed both suits this month. There are still some details that I need to work on. Enjoy!

Awesome work!!
Hours on the base model builds.
Hope your kids appreciate you.

Where did you get the pep files or blueprints from?

I finished the assault rifle two months ago. Here is another shot of the build.

This looks great. A lot more detail than the scratch build I am doing. I am going to have to try my hand at pep work one of these days. :thumbsup

Thanks, you've done some excellent work just using cardboard. Be prepared to spend late nights if you want to go the pep route.

Thanks, I appreciate it. The design of the Recon helmet is really starting to grow on me. I want to build one now for myself. :behave

Edit: Now that I have thought about it, how did you figure out the scaling almost a year in advance? My son seemed to grow 15-20% (10yrs old now) since I started 6 months ago. I had to heavily modify the chest piece after I built it the first time due to the measurements I took at the start were not accurate.

Through trial and error. If you know how much your son is growing (15-20%), all you need is minus it off the original size. Most original pep files models to adult size, about 6 feet tall.

It is always safer to build it bigger than trying to fit tightly. For the helmet, kids heads are oversize proportionally to adults. I used adult size and minus about 2 inches off.

The way I build it is quite simple. I build partial of the model and size it against my kids. If the size is wrong, I start new again. That way I won't waste all the time pepping the full model and find out later that it is the wrong size. For example, the legs are much more difficult to gauge. So I started with the shins and have my kids tested them.

Hope this helps.

There should totally be an "AWESOME DAD" thread made to compile all these "for my kid" threads. Great work!

I had my kids tried out the costumes. Have to get them ready for Halloween. Let me know what you think.

Thanks all!

I realized the shins are tad oversize because my kids has limited mobility when they tried to walk. I build an extra inch in hoping they will grow taller. Too late in the game to make new ones. I need to trim the edges behind the legs to make walking easier. Hopefully I can get it done by end of the week.

I posted the same update in 405th. So here goes.

Here are some photos that I took on Halloween.

The costumes all ready.

It looks like the school your kids go to allowed them to wear their costume, thats nice! The School System my kid goes to is too caught up in that Politically Correct Bull to not allow the kids come to school in any costume! When I was a kid that was one of the highlights of wearing a costume around Halloween! Your effort with your kids costumes puts to shame my effort when I did a ODST Costume Build for my son last year.

Awesome work Coolc

It's great to see those ODST files being used for so many costumes.

It might be too soon to ask, but do you have a new project lined up?
